NYC: DICK BOTTON WITH GOTTA SING - AN INTIMATE CONCERT OF GREAT SONGS
Dick Botton presents Gotta Sing - An Intimate Concert of Great Songs at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) on Sunday, April 21st at 4:00 pm. As a child, Dick performed on network radio programs. As an adult he was the first winner of the Music Education League voice competition. The prize was Town Hall (NY) joint recital with an instrumentalist. Dick was also the winner of Arthur Godfrey Talent Scouts Television Show. Thereafter, he appeared with Arthur Godfrey on his regular television and radio shows. He sang with Paul Whiteman Orchestra, and appeared with his orchestra on television and radio. Dick starred in a premiere performance of modern opera, "Sweeney Agonistes" by Richard Winslow, at MacMillan Theater of Columbia University. In 1963, he won first prize in Eastern Region Metropolitan Opera Auditions. He appeared on the operatic stage in a number of American cities. Performerd with Robert Shaw Chorale, and the Bach Aria Group as well as a soloist with the Birmingham Symphony, Fort Worth Symphony and Cantica Hebraica orchestra and chorus. DIck was a soloist at Alice Tull Hall (NY) and Jordan Hall (Boston) for Zamir Chorale's Bloch Service performances. He sang a premiere performance of orchestral and vocal version of Leonard Bernstein's "Dybbuk." Soloist on recording, "Day of Joy" (Sabbath), produced by National Public Radio. There is a $20 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.
