LONDON: LIZ ROBERTSON AT THE CRAZY COQS - TONIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY
Liz Robertson premieres her new show, Liz Sings Her Favourite Songs, at THE CRAZY COQS AT BRASSERIE ZEDEL (20 Sherwood St, Piccadilly, London W1F 7ED - 020 7734 4888 - ) on Tuesday through Saturday, April 23rd through 27th at 8:00 pm. Chris Walker accompanies Liz on piano. She will be performing the songs that have meant the most to her over a distinguished career as one of Britain's most loved leading ladies in shows by Sondheim, Andrew Lloyd Webber and her late husband, the great lyricist Alan J. Lerner. Liz is inextricably part of the British musical theatre, the perfect interpreter of great songs from Noel Coward to Stephen Sondheim. Other songwriters who have all been part of her stage life include Cy Coleman, Cole Porter, Stephen Sondheim and Jerome Kern. What is less known is that Liz is a wonderful raconteuse and has many backstage stories to tell of the real world of music and music-makers. As a very young actress/singer, Liz came to public attention starring as Eliza Doolittle in the 1979 London revival of My Fair Lady, a role for which she won the Variety Club's Most Promising Actress award and, not incidentally, won its lyricist, Alan J.Lerner. She has led the cast in a string of impressive and popular musicals, including the original productions of Song and Dance and Side By Side By Sondheim, Stepping Out, The Phantom of the Opera, Hairspray and Love Never Dies in the West End.
