NYC: CARMEL'S CANDY STORE: THE SWEET SONGS OF CARMEL DEAN
Australian-born Carmel Dean brings her show Carmel's Candy Store: The Sweet Songs of Carmel Dean to 54 BELOW (254 West 54th Street, NYC - 646-476-3551) on Sunday, February 3rd at 7:00 pm. Carmel is perhaps best-known for music directing and/or vocal arranging the Broadway musicals American Idiot, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, and the upcoming Hands on a Hardbody. She has worked with a wide range of performers including Chita Rivera, Green Day, Eve Ensler, and Phish, and also has a name that Americans find synonymous with a gooey, sticky, chewy substance. After many tiresome years of explaining that she is not, in fact, named after a candy, Carmel is finally embracing her sweet namesake and will present an evening of her own tasty compositions, with the help of delectable Broadway veterans Jay Armstrong Johnson (Hands on a Hardbody, Hair), Lisa Howard (Spelling Bee, Priscilla Queen of the Desert), Alysha Umphress (American Idiot, On A Clear Day You Can See Forever), Michael Winther (Mamma Mia, Songs from an Unmade Bed) and special guests Rebecca Naomi Jones (American Idiot) and Kate Wetherhead (Submissions Only). There is a $25-$35 cover plus a $25 food/drink minimum.
