"West Coast Cool" will be presented atTHE CABARET AT THE COLUMBIA CLUB (121 Monument Circle, Indianapolis, IN - 317-275-1169) on Wednesday, September 12th at 7:30 pm. The show is the result of an exciting collaboration between two of Southern California's hottest, hippest jazz singers: Manhattan Transfer's Cheryl Bentyne and Mark Winkler. The show explores "west coast style," the more lyrical, mellower style of jazz as opposed to the harder-edged "bop" favored in the East. Illuminating the evolution of "West Coast cool" from it's beginnings in the '50s through today, Cheryl and Mark witll spotlight the work of such jazz greats as Dave Bruebeck, Chet Baker, Steve Allen, Bobby Troup, Chris Connor, Julie London, June Christy and more! Cheryl Bentyne has thrilled thousands of jazz fans as the flame-haired soprano in the vocal group known as The Manhattan Transfer. Her work with that group has earned her nine Grammy Award. Mark Winkler, an LA-based singer/songwriter, has successfully straddled two worlds...the world of jazz and the world of theater. As a performer, he has achieved a position among the highest-ranking male jazz singers of the day, being compared to Kurt Elling and Mark Murphy. There is a $35-$45-$55 cover plus a $12 food/drink minimum.
