NYC: MICHAEL GILLETT WITH NEW VERSION OF "CAST OF THOUSANDS"
MAC Award-winning vocalist and director Eric Michael Gillett returns to DON'T TELL MAMA(343 West 46th Street, NYC - 212-757-0788) on Friday nights at 7:00 pm, January 7th, 14th and 21st, to revisit the songs of Craig Carnelia in a revamp of his highly acclaimed show, CAST OF THOUSANDS. Gillett is considered by many to be the foremost interpreter of this Broadway and cabaret composer's intricate and moving portraits of contemporary life. CAST OF THOUSANDS weaves a rich tapestry of song as Gillett enacts the lives of the thousands of people with whom we interact every day but may never come to know. Now, 15 years after it was first performed, Gillett returns to the material that inspired his first songbook collaboration in an evening that explores not only songs from the original production but, also, new material written by Carnelia in the intervening years. Featuring songs from the acclaimed scores of IS THERE LIFE AFTER HIGH SCHOOL?, WORKING, and THREE POSTCARDS, as well as contemporary classics ("Flight," "Life on Earth") and new material from ACTOR, LAWYER, INDIAN CHIEF. CAST OF THOUSANDS will feature new arrangements by musical director Jeff Cubeta at the piano, with arrangements from the original run by Christopher Denny. CAST OF THOUSANDS was originally performed at Eighty-Eight's in NYC, with direction by Barry Kleinbort and musical direction by Christopher Denny. The original cast album of this show was named the #1 album of the year by IN THEATRE MAGAZINE.
