N.Y.STATE: 110 IN THE SHADE AT FORT SALEM THEATER
"110 in the Shade" takes the MAINSTAGE AT FORT SALEM THEATER (11 East Broadway, Salem, NY - 518-854-9200 - ) Fridays through Sundays, July 23rd through 25th and July 30th through August 1st at 8:00 pm (2:00 pm in the 24th). Based on the N. Richard Nash play, The Rainmaker, later a film starring Katharine Hepburn and Bert Lancaster, 110 in the Shade takes us back to an era when a single woman was called an "old maid." In the Hepburn role, Fort cabaret regular Lynne Kerr brings her warm singing voice to Lizzie Curry, a character that eventually learns that reality sometimes contains all the makings of a dream, and that believing in oneself can make the dream come true. The lyrical score is written by Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt, the team also responsible for The Fantasticks and I Do, I Do. The cast features Equity actors and local professionals and musical direction by Artistic Director Jay Kerr. Lynne Kerr began her performing career on the Uncle Floyd TV show while she was still in college and placed her ambitions on hold for more than a decade until she began taking singing lessons. Michael Marotta, who plays Starbuck, a wandering conman, is a Schenectady- born actor and has spent the last six seasons as resident Artistic Director of The Theater Barn in New Lebanon, NY, where he directed over twenty-five plays and musicals.
