N.C.: Cabaret To Benefit Historic Preservation Of Durham - FEATURED CABARET BENEFIT EVENT

N.C.: Cabaret To Benefit Historic Preservation Of Durham
FEATURED CABARET BENEFIT EVENT

Ellen Ciompi (vocals) and Glenn Mehrbach (piano) will be performing "Something Old, Something New" at Durham's beautifully restored KING'S DAUGHTERS INN (204 N. Buchanan Boulevard, Durham, NC - RESV: 919-489-0606 - http://www.preservationdurham.org/ ) on Wednesday, June 16th from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. The event will support Historic Preservation of Durham's 35th Anniversary. Just as HPSD is dedicated to preserving Durham's unique architectural heritage, Ellen & Glenn are dedicated to the art of cabaret. They've been performing together since 2002, exploring the traditional cabaret literature of the Great American Song Book and Broadway and Hollywood musicals, even as they expand the genre to also embrace songwriters as diverse as Paul Simon, Tom Waits, the Beatles, the Beach Boys, and Harry Chapin. Glenn is a staff accompanist at Duke University, music director at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Chapel Hill, and music teacher at Camelot Academy in Durham. Ellen is an alumnus of the 2006 Cabaret Conference at Yale University, and holds both a BA and an MA in music, as well as an RN. She is a surgical nurse at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill. Conveniently located directly across the street from Duke's East Campus, the King's Daughters Inn, which dates from 1925, re-opened in 2009 after a two-year gut renovation by owners Colin & Deanna Crossman. Their efforts earned them HPSD's prestigious Pyne Award "for sensitive restoration projects that preserve the architecture and heritage of Durham". Tickets are $25.
