BLOG SCOOP: JEFF MATSON & DOTTIE BURMAN AWARD RECIPIENTS ANNOUNCED

Each year at the annual CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE ANNIVERSARY GALA we give out two special awards: THE JEFF MATSON AWARD, for a person(s) who have demonstrated the qualities that Jeff had: creativity, originality, mentoring, in the the fields of cabaret directing, creation, writing and/or design. And we also present THE DOTTIE BURMAN SONGWRITER AWARD, to celebrate a songwriter(s) who creates songs that have a message, and not merely to entertain. Dottie happened to be one of the originators of the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE membership concept and helped us adjust to "going it alone" after I had been working for another cabaret organization for a few years, and facing retirement. It was her suggestion to offer memberships along the PBS model, to keep CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE going. The concept of a "GALA" to kick off the membership year shortly followed.
We have made are decision, and I'm happy to report that the recipients this year also happen to be performers, and will be part of our show!
The JEFF MATSON AWARD will be presented to Frank Dain, Editor in Chief of CABARET SCENES MAGAZINE. Frank has been a good friend for nearly all the 20 years of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE, and we've known him as a performer, an artist, a web designer, a graphics designer, a cabaret writer, a cabaret editor and more.
The DOTTIE BURMAN SONGWRITER AWARD will be presented to the songwriting team of Mary Liz McNamara & Ritt Henn. While newly formed as a team, we have attended performances by each of them as individuals over the years, and have become familiar with many of their songs, sung by many performers in cabaret. Ritt has also performed on bass for many performers and shows as well.
We just made these choices on Thursday night, and we'll be getting a bio from all three soon so we can do a more elegant and accurate job of introducing them to you.
