BOSTON: JULIA AND THE ZEROUNIAN ENSEMBLE

The inimitable song-stylist Julia and the Zerounian Ensemble will perform familiar and exotic songs from around the world at THE REGATTABAR at the Charles Hotel (1 Bennett Street, Cambridge, MA - 617-395-7757) on Tuesday, October 21st at 7:30 pm. Julia will be singing French, Italian, Armenian, Russian, Persian, Yiddish and Latin tunes in addition to American Songbook classics, with her husband pianist Sarkis Zerounian leading the versatile and talented ensemble of musicians, featuring the exciting and gifted young concert violinist, Menuhin competition winner from China, Angelo Xiang Yu; the wonderful and versatile young musician from Macedonia Goran Daskalov on saxophone and accordion, the well seasoned and klezmer music specialist Grant Smith on percussion and Fernando Huergo on bass. There is a $24 cover. 

TORONTO: JAZZ BISTRO YOUNG ARTIST SERIES: SOPHIA PERLMAN

Sophia Perlman will perform at THE JAZZ BISTRO (251 Victoria Street, Toronto, ONT, CA - 416-363-5299) on Tuesday, October 21st at 6:00 pm as part of the club's Young Artist Series. Since completing her studies at Humber College in Toronto, Sophia Perlman has become a fixture of the Ontario jazz and blues scene. Her musicality, old-soul voice and skill as an improviser have made her a first-call featured singer with some of the top ensembles and musicians in the country. In addition to performing and touring with her own quartet, she is found performing regularly with numerous artists and ensembles, including Adrean Farrugia, The Toronto Jazz Orchestra, The Darcy Hepner Jazz Orchestra, The Toronto Rhythm Initiative, The Vipers, and Chuck Jackson's Big Bad Blues Band. No cover. 

TORONTO: JOHN MACMURCHY CD RELEASE

John MacMurchy, an artist whose principal area of interest has been as a musician and composer, will perform at THE JAZZ BISTRO (251 Victoria Street, Toronto, ONT, CA - 416-363-5299) on Tuesday, October 21st at 8:00 pm. He has produced two CD albums to critical acclaim and international airplay. He has composed for jazz trio, quartet and quintet, the Mike Cado tentet, various big bands and also for string quartet. John also composes choral music. Being fluent in classical and early twentieth century music has led to diverse influences in his music but the compositions are cohesive and original. As a performer he has worked with artists as varied as Henry Mancini, Linda Ronstadt, Guido Basso and Cleo Lane. Silent Partner is MacMurchy's third album and the second of all original material. It's evenly split between tenor sax and clarinet. The second CD, Outside The Ministry of Truth, had airplay on something over four hundred radio stations in seven countries and enjoyed critical acclaim. There is a $15 cover.
