SAN FRANCISCO: GALA TRIBUTE TO MARVIN HAMLISCH AT THE VENETIAN ROOM
A Gala Tribute to Marvin Hamlisch has been scheduled for Sunday, June 2nd at 7:30 pm at THE FAIRMONT VENETIAN ROOM (950 Mason Street, San Francisco, CA) as a fundraiser for Bay Area Cabaret . Bay Area Cabaret reopened the historic Venetian Room in 2010 after it had been dark as a musical venue for 21 years with a program by Academy, Grammy, Emmy, Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Marvin Hamlisch. At this, their first fundraising gala, they will celebrate Mr. Hamlisch and his music on what would have been his 69th birthday. Guest artists include Mr. Hamlisch's close friends, Academy Award winners and Songwriters Hall of Fame members Marilyn and Alan Bergman ("The Way We Were", "Windmills Of Your Mind", "What Are You Doing The Rest Of Your Life?", Yentil), Broadway stars Karen Mason (Mamma Mia!, Sunset Boulevard, Hairspray) and Lisa Vroman (Phantom Of The Opera, Sweeney Todd, Aspects Of Love), Bay Area Teen Idol winner Bobby Conte Thornton (Equus, Les Mis), Grammy Award-winning musical director Billy Stritch (Liza Minnelli, Reba McEntire) along with ACT Young Conservatory alums Hannah Sears, Emily Morris & Julia Cassandra Smith.
