NYC: DELETED SCENES FROM FUN HOME BY ERIN MARKEY
Erin Markey brings her show "Deleted Scenes From Fun Home" THE DUPLEX CABARET THEATRE (61 Christopher Street, NYC - 212-255-5438) on Friday, June 19th at 9:30 pm. According to Erin, very day after Fun Home rehearsal at the Public Theater, she would sneak into the show's studio using her long beautiful hair to disguise herself as not-a-lesbian. She gathered the pages from the script - written primarily in invisible ink - that were carelessly tossed to the floor, rejected from the final edit of the musical. Upon reading them, she discovered that the show's creators initially intended to include scenes spookily familiar to Erin - thinly veiled and hilariously creative interpretations of Erin's own childhood struggles including humiliatingly x-rated stand-up routines performed by Erin's Aunt Jan. They were so compelling, Erin thought it must be a mistake on Lisa Kron's part. Raised in a capitalist family, Erin knew to take advantage of Kron's missteps and assembled the scenes into their own never before seen sixty minute evening at the Duplex. Directed by Elena Heyman. Erin Markey is a comedic writer/ performer, actor and singer who has shown work at BAM, Under The Radar Festival, New Museum, PS 122, Lincoln Center Director's Lab, New York Comedy Festival, San Francisco Film Society, and frequently at Joe's Pub at the Public Theater. Her new musical, A Ride On The Irish Cream will premiere at Abrons Arts Center in January 2016. There is an $18 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.
NYC: THE VAUDEVILLIANS - THE ORIGINAL SHOW
The Vaudevillians returns to NYC on Thursday, June 11th at 7:00 pm at THE WEST BANK CAFE/LAURIE BEECHMAN THEATRE (407 West 42nd Street, NYC - 212-695-6909) This is the original hit show that introduced Kitty Witless and Dr. Dan von Dandy atarting in 2013. The follow-up show, The Vaudevillians: Bringing Up Baby is also playing in rotation at The Beechman! Throughout the 1920's Kitty Witless and Dr. Dan Von Dandy toured speakeasies and burlesque theaters through the United States as THE VAUDEVILLIANS, wowing audiences with their edgy, original music. Unfortunately, one day, tragedy struck. While touring through Antarctica, they were victims of a devastating avalanche and were buried under two tons of sleet and snow - instantly freezing them alive. But thanks to Global Warming, they recently thawed out only to discover that pop artists of various decades had stolen their music and passed it off as their own. Much to their shock and chagrin. Now, at long last, they are taking to the stage to reclaim their songs, performing their music as originally composed. The Vaudevillians stars RuPaul's Drag Race sensation Jinkx Monsoon as "Kitty Witless" and acclaimed composer and musician Major Scales as Dr.Dan Von Dandy. There is a $25-$50 cover plus a $20 food/drink minimum.
NYC: THE CUTTING ROOM PRESENTS: BLEU EDMONDSON
Bleu Edmondson performs at THE CUTTING ROOM (44 East 32nd Street, NYC - 212-691-1900) on Friday, June 19th at 8:00 pm. With The Future Ain't What It Used To Be, Bleu Edmondson's long-awaited follow-up to 2007's critically acclaimed Lost Boy, the southern-fried country rocker embarked on a search for truth, stripping back layers of regret, loss, and longing to uncover a renewed, albeit somewhat painfully soul-baring, view of himself and the world around him. He dug deeper into what the music meant to him as a musician, a writer and a man. The collection of songs ministers to the saint and the sinner in each of us. It is an amalgamation of those touch points and influences that give us permission to question, confront and raise a little hell on Saturday night. Bleu's early years were spent focused on sports rather than music. He picked up a guitar for the first time during his college years, learned a few chords and his future was set. Bleu soon discovered that some of his favorite musical acts - Robert Earl Keen, Radney Foster, Uncle Tupelo • shared a common thread: Lloyd Maines either produced or played steel guitar on their recordings. A short time later, using a tape player in his dorm room, Bleu made guitar/vocal demos of some of his songs and sent the tape to Maines. Quickly recognizing the raw talent on that homemade cassette tape, Maines contacted Bleu and ultimately became his producer. The pairing made two records together: Southland and The Band Plays On. Bleu credits Maines with giving him his start in the music business. On the new disc's debut single, "No Room for Mercy," the soulful singer/songwriter paints a vivid picture of the painful unraveling of a relationship, with a south Texas thunderstorm as a symbolic backdrop. There is a $20 cover plus a $20 food/drink minimum.

In 2003, Shwartz decided to experiment with old and new sounds and different flavors: Klezmer music from a Mexican point of view. Klezmerson gracefully combines melodies and rhythms from Europe's Jewish tradition with gypsy and Mexican influences, creating a peculiar fusion of rock, funk and jazz improvisations. Performed in Spanish and English. There is an $18 cover.
NYC: ISLE OF KLEZBOS AT JOE'S PUB AS PART OF KULTURFESTNYC
NYC-based Isle of Klezbos, which approaches tradition with irreverence and respect, performs at JOE'S PUB at THE PUBLIC THEATRE (425 Lafayette Street, NYC - 212-967-7555) on Friday, June 19th at 9:00 pm. The soulful, fun-loving powerhouse all-women's klezmer sextet has toured from Vienna to Vancouver since 1998. Band repertoire ranges from rambunctious to entrancing: neo-traditional folk dance, mystical melodies, Yiddish swing & retro tango, late Soviet-era Jewish drinking song, re-grooved standards, and genre-defying originals. There is an $18 cover.
NYC: THE SKIVVIES - NOW AT JOE'S PUB!
The Skivvies, Lauren Molina and Nick Cearley, perform at JOE'S PUB at THE PUBLIC THEATRE (425 Lafayette Street, NYC - 212-967-7555) on Friday, June 19th at 11:00 pm. The award-winning NYC actor/musicians do stripped down versions of eclectic covers and comedic, genre-hopping mashups. Not only are the arrangements stripped down - cello, ukulele, glockenspiel, melodica - but the Skivvies literally strip down to their underwear to perform. It's undie-rock at its finest. They were recently featured in People Magazine's Hottest Bodies Issue as the Most Playful performers. Molina (Rock of Ages, Sweeney Todd, Candide) and Cearley (Pageant, A Midsummer Night's Dream, All Shook Up) started The Skivvies on YouTube becoming sensations with their covers of artists like Robyn, Carole King and Rihanna. Their live show, featuring Tony winning special guests, is wildly fun, packed with big voices, crazy harmonies, surprises, but no pants. There is a $30 cover.
