NYC: STEVE LIPPIA SINATRA CENTENNIAL AT BIRDLAND

Steve Lippia celebrates the Sinatra Centennial at BIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080) on Tuesday, January 27th with shows at 8:30 & 11:00 pm. Steve Lippia has become one of the most prominent, in-demand vocalists and has quickly established his place among the finest interpreters of "standards" and traditional pop music in the nation. Steve's youthful, energetic talent and powerful show creates a perfect blend of "classic" with "today". His show introduces a new generation to this timeless music, while appealing to long-time listeners. Steve has headlined in highly successful, extended engagements at the Rio Suites Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas and Resorts Hotel & Casino in Atlantic City, where SRO audiences lined up more than two hours before show time to vie for seating. He has performed in multiple engagements for Hilton Atlantic City and Casino Windsor, among others.

NYC: WALLACE RONEY QUINTET AT THE BLUE NOTE

The Wallace Roney Quintet featuring Ron Carter - Bass, Lenny White - Drums, Ben Solomon - Tenor Saxophone and Kevin Hayes - Piano perform at THE BLUE NOTE (131 West 3rd Street, NYC - 212-475-8592) on Wednesday, January 28th with shows at 8:00 & 10:30 pm. Wallace Roney earned the admiration and respect of his colleagues and his elders since age 16. He has been an integral part of the band with Tony Williams, Ornette Coleman, Art Blakey, Elvin Jones, Philly Joe Jones, Walter Davis Jr., Herbie Hancock, Jay McShann, David Murray, McCoy Tyner, Sonny Rollins, Curtis Fuller, Carole King, Joni Mitchell, and Dizzy Gillespie to name a few. He was one of the few musicians in his generation who learned and perfected his craft directly from alliances with Jazz Masters. But his most important and meaningful relationship was with Miles Davis. Wallace was mentored by Miles Davis after Miles heard him in 1983 at his birthday gala performance in Carnegie Hall. Their association peaked when Miles chose Wallace to share the stage at his historic performance in Montreux in 1991. After Davis died, Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter, Wayne Shorter, Tony Williams and Roney banded together and toured the world in tribute.

NYC: JACQUES SCHWARZ-BART PRESENTS JAZZ RACINE HAITI

Jacques Schwarz-Bart performs at DIZZY'S CLUB AT JAZZ AT LINCOLN CENTER (33 West 60th Street, NYC - 212-258-9595) on Wednesday, January 28th with shows at 7:30 & 9:30 pm. Schwarz-Bart 's new project, Jazz Racine Haiti, is an intriguing dialogue that explores the shared roots of jazz, voodoo music, and Racine - "roots music from the countryside of Haiti." Schwarz-Bart grew up in Guadeloupe, went to school in France and worked for the French Senate, has visited Haiti numerous times, and studied at Berklee College of Music in Boston. After school, he played alongside jazz giants like Danilo Perez, Chucho Valdes, and Roy Hargrove, whose group Schwarz-Bart left in 2005 in order to lead his own bands. His diverse background gives a hint of his musical vision, featuring both voodoo priests and A-list jazz musicians, in an interesting expansion of traditional approaches to jazz. The music is genuinely accessible for audiences new to any of the styles involved, yet it also offers an opportunity for music aficionados in search of something that is relatable, grounded in tradition, and yet fresh and unpredictable. There is a $30 cover.
