His Cuban-based band Crisol (with piano legend Jesus "Chucho" Valdes and drummer Horatio "El Negro" Hernandez), won the Best Latin Jazz Performance Grammy in 1997, and 2002s Directions in Music (with Herbie Hancock and Michael Brecker) won Best Instrumental Jazz Album. BOSTON, MA: BRUCE KATZ BAND CD RELEASE SHOW FOR HOMECOMING

Bruce Katz, a three time (2008, 2009, 2010) Nominee for the Blues Music Award (W.C. Handy Award) for "Pinetop Perkins Piano Player of the Year", selected by the Blues Foundation of Memphis, TN, will perform at THE REGATTABAR at the Charles Hotel (1 Bennett Street, Cambridge, MA - 617-395-7757) on Friday, January 30th at 8:00 pm. While Blues is a very important part of his music, Bruce's music has more angles and influences, occupying a unique space where blues, "soul-jazz", jam-band rock, and all aspects of Americana Music collide into a style of original music all his own. He is equally comfortable playing Hammond B-3 Organ and Piano. Besides leading the Bruce Katz Band, Bruce performs regularly with the Delbert McClinton Band, Jaimoe's Jasssz Band, John Hammond, Maria Muldaur and other artists as well. He was a member of the Gregg Allman Band from 2007-2013. Over the past twenty five years, Bruce has been an in-demand sideman as well as leading his own band. He has played and recorded with many of the leading names in blues and roots music, appearing on over 70 albums with artists such as Ronnie Earl, John Hammond, Delbert McClinton, Gregg Allman, Duke Robillard, Joe Louis Walker, Little Milton, Maria Muldaur, Jimmy Witherspoon, Paul Rishell, Mighty Sam McClain, Debbie Davies, David "Fathead" Newman and many others. Bruce has a lengthy background in classical piano. After hearing a Bessie Smith record when he was 10 years old, he started teaching himself blues and early jazz on the piano. He then heard boogie-woogie and swing music and continued his musical journey into more aspects of jazz and American roots music. Bruce attended Berklee College of Music in the mid-1970s, studying Composition and performance. For the next fifteen years, he performed with many of the leading musicians in New England, and played "on the road" for long stretches of time. After a particularly long stint of touring in the late '80s with Barrence Whitfield and the Savages, he decided to come off the road and enrolled at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston where he earned a Master's degree in Jazz Performance and studied with Geri Allen, Paul Bley, Cecil McBee and George Russell. It was during this time that he conceived of and started writing music that became the Bruce Katz Band. There is a $20 cover.

TORONTO: BILL KING TRIO WITH SELENA EVANGELINE AND GAVIN HOPE
Pianist-composer-publisher Bill King, along with jazz vocalists Selena Evangeline and Gavin Hope will perform at THE JAZZ BISTRO (251 Victoria Street, Toronto, ONT, CA - 416-363-5299) on Thursday through Saturday, January 29th through 31st at 9:00 pm. King is a multi-talented individual whose recording and production credits include 'Live! In Session' by Liberty Silver; 'Magnolia Nights, Moment's Notice' by Bill King and the Jazz Report All-Stars, 'From The Heart' a tribute to piano great Oscar Peterson, 'East Side Symphony, The Night Passage Years' and most recently Bill King's Saturday Nite Fish Fry "Jump Shout Rock da House," The Rockit 88 Band's "Too Much Fun" and the King-Alleyne-Roth Trio's "It Might As Well Be Spring.". These projects highlight King's versatility as both a keyboardist and composer. Selena Evangeline is, without question, a world class singer. The sounds of Ella Fitzgerald, Chaka Khan, Prince and Stevie Wonder helped shape the musician she is today. As a multi-instrumentalist and songwriter, her songs are musical snapshots of real life and emotions, from a real woman. Those "snapshots" helped to win her an Ontario Independent Music Award for Best Urban, Barrie New Music Award as well as honorable mention in the John Lennon Song Writing Competition. Her debut album "This Girl's Life" was featured on CTV's "Da Kink In My Hair" and her single "Lifesong"received heavy rotation on Canadian airwaves as well as MuchVibe and MTV1. Selena's second release, "Bad Weather", is a blend of R&B/Soul, Jazz, Pop, Funk and even a little classic sounding rock - a sound that she likes to call "Alternative R&B". Gavin Hope's career spans the stage, film, television and song. At 20, he joined Canadian pop a cappella sensation The Nylons, performing on four albums and touring with the group across Canada, Europe, Asia and South America. Gavin's lead vocal on the hit single "Love TKO" helped earn the group a Juno nomination for Best R&B Recording. Post Nylons, Gavin ventured back into professional theatre playing "Collins," the lead character in the Canadian company of RENT at Toronto's Royal Alexandra Theatre, and later as "Simba" in the original Canadian company of The Lion King. Gavin recorded his debut solo album "Anything Like Mine" in the late 90's and scored multiple charted singles, as well as a second Juno nomination for Best R&B Recording. He has shared the stage with Shania Twain, Deborah Cox, Jill Scott, Nathalie Cole, James Brown and Aretha Franklin. His new solo album "For All We Know" is a vocal jazz influenced release produced by and featuring, Bill King on piano. There is a $15-$20 cover.
