MARNIE KLAR brings her new show 'HOME' to DON'T TELL MAMA (343 West 46th Street, NYC - 212-757-0788) on Friday, June 6th; Tuesday, June 10th; Wednesday, June 18th; and Tuesday, June 24th, all shows at 7:00 pm. Steven Ray Watkins serves as musical director with Matt Scharfglass on bass and Terese Genecco on drums. The show will fature songs by The Bird & the Bee, Five for Fighting, Imagine Dragons, Led Zeppelin, the Lumineers, Ingrid Michaelson, Kylie Minogue, Sam Phillips, Regina Spektor & The White Stripes. NYC: BARRET IS BACK ON RESTAURANT ROW
Chris Barrett returns to LA RIVISTA RISTORANTE (313 West 46th Street, NYC - 212-366-4603) on Monday, May 19th, where he will be at the piano Mondays through Wednesdays. There are two shows nightly, a dinner show at 8:00 and a supper show at 10:00 pm. Chris Barrett's performances are in the tradition of the great late-night boites of a fondly remembered era, when the likes of Hugh Shannon, Bobby Short, and Buddy Barnes manned the keyboard. There is no cover charge.
NYC: TISH RABE & FRIENDS AT THE METROPOLITAN ROOM
Tish Rabe and Friends, a jazz quartet, will perform at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440 - ) on Wednesday, June 18th at 7:00 pm. Rabe ia a graduate of Ithaca College School of Music with a degree in Vocal Performance, She sings classic and contemporary jazz favorites by Natalie Cole, Diana Krall and Michael Buble. The band recently performed to a sell-out crowd at The Side Door Jazz Club and Ms. Rabe sings as a guest artist at local jazz festivals. There is a $20 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.
NYC: AN EVENING OF SONGS WITH BARBARA LEVY DANIELS & HOUSTON PERSON
An Evening of Songs with Barbara Levy Daniels & Houston Person will be presented at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440 - ) on Wednesday, June 18th at 9:30 pm. Barbara and Houston have recently recorded a CD of delightful jazz tunes, some of which will be heard on this night. Known for his distinctive and expressive style, tenor saxophonist Houston Person studied at South Carolina State College where in 1999 he was inducted into the school's Hall of Fame. Houston has recorded over 100 albums, working with greats such as Bill Charlap, Lena Horne, Lou Rawls, Horace Silver and many other artists. Houston and Barbara were brought together by John di Martino, pianist, composer and arranger, who has recorded and performed with both artists. Jazz Vocalist Barbara Daniels was signed to a recording contract in 1958 when Barbara was 12-years-old. Known then as Barbara Lyons, she recorded several 45's, including "Dear Buddy", one of the first songs written by Carole King. She also recorded a children's album with Chubby Jackson, Woody Herman's bass player. In 1995, after raising a family, Barbara decided to return to her first love•singing good music. She recorded 2 CDs from1996 to 2005, performed at venues in the USA and also graced stages from Vietnam to Cuba. There is a $25 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.
NYC: THE VAUDEVILLIANS AT THE BEECHMAN
The Vaudevillians, last year's smash hit returns to New York at to THE WEST BANK CAFE/LAURIE BEECHMAN THEATRE (407 West 42nd Street, NYC - 212-695-6909) for a limited run, Sunday, June 15th through Sunday, June 22nd at 7:00 pm (no show on Tuesday, June 17th). The Vaudevillians stars RuPaul's Drag Race sensation Jinkx Monsoon as "Kitty Witless" and accredited composer and musician Major Scales as Dr.Dan Von Dandy. The show has been retooled and contains some songs and material never performed in New York before! Throughout the 1920's Kitty Witless and Dr. Dan Von Dandy toured speakeasies and burlesque theaters through the United States as THE VAUDEVILLIANS, wowing audiences with their edgy, original music. Unfortunately, one day, tragedy struck. While touring through Antarctica, they were victims of a devastating avalanche and were buried under two tons of sleet and snow - instantly freezing them alive. But thanks to Global Warming, they recently thawed out only to discover that pop artists of various decades had stolen their music and passed it off as their own. Much to their shock and chagrin. Now, at long last, they are taking to the stage to reclaim their songs, performing their music as originally composed. Call for cover/minimum information.
NYC: JANE LYNCH IN 54 BELOW SOLO CONCERT BEBUT
Emmy and Golden Globe Award winner Jane Lynch comes to 54 BELOW (254 West 54th Street, NYC - 646-476-3551) on Wednesday & Thursday, June 18th & 19th at 7:00 pm and Friday & Saturday, June 20th & 21st at 8:00 pm for her solo concert debut! Fresh from her iconic portrayal of Sue Sylvester on Glee and her Broadway debut in Annie, Jane will now provide audiences at 54 Below with four unforgettable June nights. Jane began her theatrical career and developed her comic skills at The Second City, Steppenwolf Theatre and in many church basements all over the greater Chicago-land area. In addition to Glee, Jane's TV credits include Desperate Housewives and Weeds, as well as the final season of The L Word opposite Cybill Shepherd. She has had recurring roles on Two and a Half Men, where she was nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actress, Criminal Minds and The New Adventures of Old Christine. With her wit and luminous stage presence, Jane served as the host for the 63rd Annual Primetime Emmy Awards. Jane also has a long list of film credits, including Julie & Julia; Christopher Guest's For Your Consideration, A Mighty Wind and Best in Show; Talladega Nights; The 40 Year Old Virgin; Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events; and many more. Amy Toporek brings her highly anticipated solo debut show 'Once In Love" to 54 BELOW(254 West 54th Street, NYC - 646-476-3551) on Wednesday, June 18th at 9:30 pm. Ms Toporekby has one of the most exciting voices in NYC. In addition to rave reviews on cabaret stages across the city, Amy has led the Hairspray tour as Tracy Turnblad and appeared in The Marvelous Wonderettes and Nunsense. At 54 Below, Amy will be channeling the women of our past, presenting the many sides of love and acceptance of ones status in life and ones own self. Ranging from Liza Minnelli to Nancy Wilson, this evening will take you back to the nightclubs of yesteryear as you rediscover and uncover some of the best tunes from the American Songbook. Backed by the 'Fantastically Nostalgic' 7 piece band, Dylan and the Glatthorns, Amy Toporek is set out to ring in her new day and reveal her take on the life and times of the NEW Modern American Woman.
