LOS ANGELES: THE GARDENIA PRESENTS LIZ "LOMAX" GOLDSTEIN

SAN FRANCISCO: PHIL PERRY AT YOSHI'S

Smooth jazz and R&B vocalist Phil Perry will perform at YOSHI'S (1330 Fillmore Street, San Francisco, CA - 415-655-5600 ) on Saturday & Sunday, August 23rd & 24th at 8:00 pm. A great vocalist has a way of inhabiting a song, living it and making it their own. It takes especially great powers of interpretation for a singer to take a song definitively recorded by a legendary artist and give it new life with a fresh interpretation. Phil Perry takes on the ultimate challenge with the opening track of his new album, the indelible "You Send Me," recorded in classic style by the peerless Sam Cooke, whose own unique phrasing style actually shapes the melody of the tune, which he wrote. Yet Phil Perry transforms the song while still retaining its essence, opening in "old school" style and then transmuting it into contemporary soul music. Few singers around today could have done it but those who have experienced the magic of Phil Perry's talent will not be surprised. There is a $33-$36 cover.

SAN FRANCISCO: "I HEART THE 80'S" WITH TONY VINCENT & JESSICA PHILLIPS

Starring Tony Vincent (Broadway's American Idiot; NBC's "The Voice") and Jessica Phillips (Broadway's Leap of Faith; NBC's "Law and Order SVU"), this evening is sure to take you back to the days of big hair, big bracelets and shoulder pads! There is a $35-$50 cover plus a $20 food/drink minimum.

SAN FRANCISCO: "YES, DEAR!" AT SOCIETY CABARET WITH SCOTT GRINTHAL & LAUREN MAYER

"Yes, Dear!" (A Marital Cabaret) will be performed atSOCIETY CABARET AT THE HOTEL REX (562 Sutter Street, San Francisco, CA 94102 - 800-982-2787 ) on Saturday, August 23rd at 8:00 pm. Husband & wife duo Scott Grinthal & Lauren Mayer are a unique twist on performer couples - she's the wry accompanist, he's the lovely singer. Their show covers the ups & downs of marriage with a mix of advice, anecdotes, and humor, including standards, forgotten treasures, show tunes, rock songs, and original comedy tunes. Area audiences know Scott's work as a theatre performer and popular big-band singer, and Lauren is a 5-time recipient of the SF Cabaret Gold Award for her work as a comedic singer-pianist. Together, they've found their perfect musical match (or at least Scott has learned that the title of their show is also the perfect response to any disagreement). Call for cover/minimum information.
