BOSTON: MID SUMMER MEGA BLUES DOUBLE BILL: GUITAR SHORTY & SELWYN BIRCHWOOD
THE REGATTABAR at the Charles Hotel (1 Bennett Street, Cambridge, MA - 617-395-7757) presents a Mid Summer Mega Blues Double Bill featuring Guitar Shorty & Selwyn Birchwood, on Saturday, August 23rd at 7:30 pm. Legendary guitarist/vocalist Guitar Shorty is a giant in the blues world. Credited with influencing both Jimi Hendrix and Buddy Guy, Guitar Shorty has been electrifying audiences for five decades with his supercharged live shows and his incendiary recordings. Like a bare knuckled boxer, Shorty strikes with his blistering, physical guitar playing and his fierce vocals, connecting directly with body and soul. Selwyn Birchwood, Florida's rising young blues fireball, is a guitar and lap-steel-playing bundle of pure energy. He delivers his original songs with a revival tent preacher's fervor and a natural storyteller's charisma made all the more impactful by his raw, unvarnished vocals. Birchwood plays high-octane blues - at once deeply rooted, funky and up-to-the-minute - with true passion and honest emotion. There is a $25 cover.
