NEW HOPE, PA: A DIVINE EVENING WITH CHARLES BUSCH
A Divine Evening With Charles Busch will be presented at THE RRAZZ ROOM IN NEW HOPE (6426 Lower York Road, New Hope, PA - 888-596-1027 ) on Friday & Saturday, August 22nd & 23rd at 8:00 pm. He will be accompanied by Tom Judson. Charles Busch is the author and star of such plays as The Divine Sister, Vampire Lesbians of Sodom, and The Tale of the Allergist's Wife, which ran for nearly two years on Broadway and received a Tony nomination for Best Play. He has starred in three shows including Auntie Mame and his own plays Shanghai Moon and The Lady In Question. He wrote and starred in the film versions of his plays, Psycho Beach Party and Die Mommie Die, the latter of which won him the Best Performance Award at the Sundance Film Festival. In 2003, Mr. Busch received a special Drama Desk Award for career achievement as both performer and playwright. There is a $35-$45 cover.
WASHINGTON, DC: RAMSEY LEWIS & HIS ELECTRIC BAND AT BLUES ALLEY
Ramsey Lewis & His Electric Band take the stage atBLUES ALLEY (1073 Wisconsin Avenue NW, Washington, DC - 202-337-4141 ) on Thursday through Sunday, August 21st through 24th with shows at 8:00 & 10:00 pm. Ramsey recently released his 80th collection of songs entitled "Ramsey, Taking Another Look". Ramsey has been an iconic leader in the contemporary jazz movement for over 50 years, with an unforgettable sound and outgoing personality that has allowed him to cross over to the pop and R&B charts. The Ramsey Lewis Trio, with bassist Eldee Young and percussionist Redd Holt, became a fixture on the Chicago jazz scene, releasing their debut album, Ramsey Lewis & His Gentlemen of Jazz, back in 1956. Lewis earned his first gold record, as well as a Grammy award for Best Jazz Performance, for their swinging version of Dobie Gray's hit "The In Crowd." Throughout the years, Lewis' trio has undergone membership changes, all the while staying true to Lewis' high musical standards. Call for cover/minimum information.
WASHINGTON, DC: AKUA - NINA SIMONE / MIRIAM MAKEBA TRIBUTE
Akua Allrich will present her tribute show to Nina Simone and Miriam Makeba atBOHEMIAN CAVERNS(2001 Eleventh Street N.W., Washington, DC - 202-299-0800) on Friday & Saturday, August 22nd & 23rd with shows at 8:00 & 10:00 pm. Born and raised in Washington, DC, Akua Allrich was educated at Howard University in the School of Fine Arts, where she studied jazz vocals. She was taught, coached and mentored by talented musicians such as world-renowned singer Kehembe V. Eichelberger, singer/drummer Grady Tate, and pianist Charles Covington. Her musical roots run deeply into blues, jazz and rhythm and blues. She also infuses her own work with elements of African genres and American soul. She sings in the many languages of contemporary jazz including Zulu, Xhosa, Portuguese, French, Spanish and English. There is a $20 cover.

With high-profile appearances on TV Guide Channel's brand new series "Stand-Up in Stilettos", Nick Jr.'s new network "Nick Mom's Night Out", HBO's Def Comedy Jam and Showtime's Comics Without Borders, to name a few, B-Phlat has been universally spreading her own unique blend of brassy, yet sophisticated humor. In 2009, B-Phlat showcased on several stages at the Just For Laughs-Montreal Comedy Festival, one of the world's premiere comedy exhibitions.
