CABARET TONIGHT IN NYC: KURT ELLING "PASSIONWORLD" AT BIRDLAND
Acclaimed jazz vocalist Kurt Elling will perform at BIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080) on Friday & Saturday, January 10th & 11th with shows at 8:30 & 11:00 pm. On his recent CD, Kurt Elling celebrated the legendary honeycomb of offices and studios in the heart of midtown Manhattan which served as the creative home for more than 160 tenants associated with the pop-music industry. "1619 Broadway - The Brill Building Project" was an unexpected step, but one guaranteed to further solidify Elling's reputation for bold innovation and superb craftsmanship. For this engagement Elling hints at new directions with a retooled ensemble and project entitled "Passionworld" featuring pianists Gary Versace (Friday 1/10 only) and Gerald Clayton (Saturday 1/11 only), guitarist John McLean, bassist Clark Sommers, drummer Bryan Carter and special guest violinist Regina Carter (Saturday 1/11 only). There is a $45 cover plus a $10 food/drink minimum.
