CABARET TONIGHT IN NYC: THE JESSICA JONES QUARTET AT DIZZY'S
The Jessica Jones Quartet (Jessica Jones and Tony Jones, tenor saxophone; Kenny Wollesen, drums; Stomu Takeishi, bass; and special guests Candace Jones, vocals, and Levi Jones, bass) will perform at DIZZY'S CLUB AT JAZZ AT LINCOLN CENTER (33 West 60th Street, NYC - 212-258-9595) on Wednesday, January 8th with shows at 7:30 & 9:30 pm. They bring an unusually varied mix of sounds and influences to the stage, making it difficult to predict what styles will be highlighted in any given performance. At the same time, the wide range of music is surprisingly approachable, thoughtfully written and arranged, and makes for a well-paced set. Though group members span the jazz and avant-garde scenes, this particular group stays mostly within the framework of traditional jazz, making its experimental sensibilities amount to a stimulating extra dose of risk-taking that doesn't overwhelm. The eclectic musical backgrounds of the band members infuse the music with the energy and creativity of new textures while remaining firmly rooted in the jazz tradition.
