The Broadway at Birdland partnership with multi-Grammy and Tony nominated composer Frank Wildhorn continues with another "Frank & Friends" concert at BIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080) on Monday, November 4th at 7:00 pm. The series of very special one-night-only concerts celebrates the songs and favorite performers from the composer's wide range of work in popular, theatrical and classical music. For this show, Frank's friends include Robert Cuccioli, Craig Schulman, Luba Mason, Anastasia Barzee, Andrea Rivette, Colleen Sexton, Teal Wicks, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Courtney Markowitz, Dana Costello, Sean Jenness, Doug Storm, Aaron Ramey & Mel Johnson, Jr. in a Jekyll & Hyde Reunion Concert. All profits will go to THE ACTORS FUND , a nationwide human services organization that helps all professionals in the performing arts and entertainment. As with all live entertainment events, cast subject to change without notice. There is a $35 cover plus a $10 food/drink minimum.
NYC: JIM CARUSO'S "CAST PARTY" MONDAYS AT BIRDLANDFEATURED OPEN MIC EVENT
Every Monday night at 9:30 pm, Broadway impresario Jim Caruso hosts "Cast Party", a combination open-mic, networking event and party atBIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080) during which the biggest stars on Broadway relax on their night off by performing their favorite songs in an informal setting. Cast Party is a mix of music, impromptu performance and cocktail party revelry, where showbiz superstars, stunning jazz talents and cabaret glitterati hit the stage alongside up-and-comers to serve up jaw-dropping music and general razzle-dazzle. It's the ultimate spot to mix and mingle with talented show folk and their fans. There is a $20 cover plus a $10 food/drink minimum.
NYC: JOANNE BRACKEEN & RAVI COLTRANE DUO AT THE BLUE NOTE
JoAnne Brackeen & Ravi Coltrane Duo will perform at THE BLUE NOTE (131 West 3rd Street, NYC - 212-475-8592) on Monday, November 4th with shows at 8:00 & 10:30 pm. Known as "the Picasso of Jazz Piano," JoAnne Brackeen is consistently ranked by critics and jazz magazines as one of the best jazz pianists in the world, along with Keith Jarrett, McCoy Tyner, and Chick Corea. Her writing is remarkable for its creativity, stylistic range, emotional depth, and whimsical spirit. Her storied career does indeed invite parallels to Picasso; like the great visual artist, she has consistently defied convention, remaking herself and her art many times over. Her playing is virtuosic and wholly unpredictable, dense and richly detailed, rhythmically advanced and consistently, effortlessly swinging. Joining JoAnne Brackeen is saxophonist Ravi Coltrane, son of saxophonist John Coltrane and pianist Alice Coltrane. Ravi, after appearing as a sideman with the likes of McCoy Tyner, Jack DeJohnette, Jeff 'Tain' Watts, and Flying Lotus (a.k.a. Steven Ellison, Ravi's cousin), has released 6 albums as a leader since 1997. There is a $15-$25 cover.
NYC: LES PAUL SUPER TRIO WITH FRANK VIGNOLA AND JAY LEONHART
The Les Paul Super Trio, featuring Frank Vignola and Jay Leonhart, will perform atTHE IRIDIUM JAZZ CLUB(1650 Broadway, NYC - 212-582-2121) on Monday, November 4th with shows at 8:00 & 10:30 pm. Frank Vignola is one of the most extraordinary guitarists performing before the public today. His stunning virtuosity has made him the guitarist of choice for many of the world's top musicians, including Ringo Starr, Madonna, Donald Fagen, Wynton Marsalis, Tommy Emmanuel, the Boston Pops, the New York Pops, and guitar legend Les Paul, who named Vignola to his "Five Most Admired Guitar List" for the Wall Street Journal. Jay Leonhart was born in Baltimore Maryland. His parents, sisters, and brothers (6 kids in all), were all musically inclined. By the age of 7, Jay and his older brother Bill were playing banjos and guitars and mandolins and basses. When Jay was fourteen he started playing the bass in The Pier Five Dixieland Jazz Band in Baltimore and never looked back. Jay has continued to work with many of the great jazz musicians of the twentieth century. Jay has now recorded 15 solo albums. There is a $30 cover plus a $15 food/drink minimum.
NYC: MANHATTAN SCHOOL OF MUSIC AFRO-CUBAN ORCHESTRA
Manhattan School of Music Afro-Cuban Orchestra will perform at DIZZY'S CLUB AT JAZZ AT LINCOLN CENTER (33 West 60th Street, NYC - 212-258-9595) on Monday, November 4th with shows at 7:30 & 9:30 pm. Dizzy's Club, one of the three main performance venues located in Jazz at Lincoln Center's home, Frederick P. Rose Hall, produces world-class jazz performances nightly and welcomes locals and visitors alike to enjoy the city's best music, food and libations. The intimate 140-seat jazz club is set against a glittering backdrop with spectacular views of Central Park. There are student rates and special Monday Night Presentations. There is a $35 cover.
