ONT: TORONTO MUSICIANS BAND TOGETHER FOR MUSIC THERAPY TRUST
FEATURED CABARET BENEFIT EVENT
Toronto musicians band together in support of music therapy programming on Monday, January 10th at HUGH'S ROOM (2261 Dundas Street West, Toronto, ON, CAN - 416-531-6604). The amazing line-up of performers helping to raise money for Toronto's medically fragile children include Juno-awarding winning Andrew Cash, Nigerian-Canadian Jazz vocalist DK Ibomeka, and exceptionally talented Jazz pianist and composer Ron Davis. Throughout the evening, CBC's Mary Wiens explores how music therapy can bring about change with guests Dr. David Alter and Dr. Laurel Young. Music therapy is helping to enrich lives, realize potential, and give hope. Toronto's Music Therapy Centre runs services for medically fragile children that help them cope with their pain and develop in ways their parents never dreamed possible. Music therapy respite groups offer parents a much-needed break to recharge their own batteries while music therapists work with their children. The music experience allows them to be creative, enjoy a sense of accomplishment and feel good about themselves, all the while releasing tension, increasing motor skills and reaching potential both physically and social-emotionally. Individual sessions allow children to achieve more specific long-term goals through music. Whether it is a gentle lullaby to regulate an infant's heartbeat or a musical improvisation that helps a child to forget their pain, music therapy can facilitate significant and lasting change in the lives of these children and their families. Tickets are $30.
