HERE & THERE - PART I - BLOG EDITION

HERE & THERE - PART I

I promised a list of POST-MAC AWARD parties in today's issue, but I'm afraid I have nothing officially to add to the two I mentioned on Thursday: THE IRIDIUM is putting on a special midnight performance of the vocal group THE BOBS on Tuesday night for MAC attendees (and others), and there is an item on the DON'T TELL MAMA website about a post-MAC party (both clubs are within a few blocks of BB KINGS, where the gala will be held). That's it - as far as we know. You might want to check the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE BLOG later today or sometime tomorrow, where I will post any additional POST-SHOW party information.

The entries are in for the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE MAC AWARD PREDICTION contest for MEMBERS ONLY - members were asked to predict the winners in 9 of the categories - the one picking the more winners correctly would win a bundle of 6 cabaret CDs (unwrapped but not necessarily new) from my collection of duplicates. With about 75 entires to tally (sort of disappointing, since we have nearly 400 members), I will likely be spending much of Wednesday attempting to determine the winner (in case of tie, the CDs will be divided among the winning entries). I have more to say about the contest in HERE & THERE PART II below the listings.

It's been sort of a weird weekend around the USA - oil spills in the Gulf, floods in Nashville, tornados in Arkansas, a failed car bombing in Times Square (and, appropriately, a Presidential joke fest in DC!).

It's cabaret festival and fringe fests around the world, and we've been scurrying to build out new special section for Cabaret Festivals on the website - http://www.cabarethotlineonline.com/ . We have Joni Rapp's terrific report on the recent PROVINCETOWN CABARET FEST already up (with additional photos and comments to be added) as well as preliminary items on the ADELAIDE CABARET FESTIVAL. We've just received press releases for 2 other festival events and will be working to get them up and running soon as well.

I wish more folks would follow CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE on TWITTER ( http://twitter.com/cabarethotline ). Anyone can follow, you can block anyone you don't want following you, and you can follow who you wish. You can check your TWITTER list anytime for information and links to updates, receive bulletins from CNN, NY TIMES, FOX, etc., and for New Yorkers, even subway & bus schedule/route changes - after all, its the dreaded "street festival" season here in NYC. And if you follow me, I send out cabaret picks every day (for all over the world), let you know of cabaret show cancellations/schedule changes, and even sometimes clue you in on the shows I am off to see. All you need is a name - real or invented - and a password to join.
You can also read my "tweets" in the left column of the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE WEBSITE home page and in the right column of the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE BLOG.

I don't have any funds available right now to pay anyone for cabaret reviews, and I firmly believe reviewers should be paid for their work (not just given a card that gives free cover and 2 drinks for reviewer and friend). But, if you have the urge to review a show you've seen, I am open to posting these reviews on the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE BLOG where others can add their comments as well. If you own the rights to the review (in other words, if no one else has paid you to write it, and therefor they own the rights) you are free to submit a review here. No pay, no free cover, no free drinks, and you must not imply in any way to the venue that your are officially writing for CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE. No publicists and/or close friends of the performer reviewed, please. All reviews subject to editing (and possible rejection with reason for rejection sent you quickly). Please include, if applicable, where and when it might have been posted elsewhere. Out of NYC items especially sought after. We might even figure out a way to repay you "barter" style with a banner ad or a free CD.
