NYC: PAT MARTINO ORGAN QUARTET AT BIRDLAND THROUGH THE 30th
The Pat Martino Organ Quartet will perform at BIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080 - ) Tuesday through Saturday, October 26th through 30th with sets at 8:30 & 11:00 pm. Virtuoso guitarist Martino got his start on the "chitlin' circuit" with organ groups led by "Groove" Holmes, Jack McDuff, Don Patterson, Trudy Pitts, Charles Earland and others in the 1960s. Having fully recovered from a life-threatening illness in the 1980s that caused him to forget how to play the guitar and relearn by listening to his own 1960s recordings, Martino has re-emerged as a veteran presence on the jazz scene due in part to a successful association with Blue Note Records. There is a $30-$40 cover plus a $10 food/drink minimum.
