NYC: GEORGE GEE BIG BAND SWINGS IN HARLEM
Beginning Monday May 24th, The George Gee 17-piece Big Band will begin a weekly Monday night engagement at Harlem's newest hotspot, GOSPEL UPTOWN/GU LIVE! (2110 Seventh Avenue, NYC - 212-280-2110). Featuring jazz and blues vocalist John Dokes (in the style of Joe Williams and Billy Eckstine), George Gee and his big band orchestra pays tribute to the swingin' music of Count Basie, Fletcher Henderson, Duke Ellington, Lionel Hampton, Benny Goodman, Chick Webb and many other Savoy Ballroom jazz icons. This marks the return of regular Big Band Jazz to Uptown NYC after a long hiatus. The George Gee Big Band has been in a swing-fest for over 30 years. The 17-piece big band has performed for many of the top names in the music industry including multi-Grammy Award winner Quincy Jones and jazz music giant Frank Foster. There is a $15 cover plus a $20 table minimum or a $10 minimum at the bar.
