HERE & THERE - PART I - BLOG EDITION

HERE & THERE - PART I

It was such a great weekend I nearly had to chain myself to the computer to get my work done! And you will note from the next item that there was work to do galore! It's supposed to rain tomorrow here in NYC, but then really warm up for next weekend.

Be careful what you ask for. Last Thursday I discovered that I had used up all the unpublished cabaret news items for May - but from the venue schedules I received, I knew there were a lot more shows for which I had no press releases. So I sent out an e-mail blast to all on the MAC group & Cabaretsingers group lists urging them to send in their releases so I could spread the word on their behalf to the 2700 subscribers to CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE and publish on the 6700 page website. Overnight 206 emails were received (nearly all from non-subscribers) as well as 15 new subscriber requests! All I can say is, in spite of what you hear, cabaret is alive and well and living all over the world!

Ricky Ritzel has announced that a memorial for his son, 'RYAN RITZEL: A CELEBRATION OF LIFE' will take place at the IRIDIUM JAZZ CLUB (1650 Broadway, NYC - 212-582-2121 - ) on Tuesday, May 25th at 3:00 pm.

Thoughts and prayers go out on behalf of Joe Regan Jr.'s good friend Frank Levandoski, who has been hospitalized for some time at Lennox Hill and now some complications have arisen. The situation is very serious. Frank was given the last rites early this morning. We will try to keep this item updated - and after the newsletter goes out we will keep you informed on Twitter and also on the blog- as well as the message board on the website.

In an "exclusive" report on Playbill.com (By Andrew Gans - 14 May 2010), it was reported that the 21st Annual New York Cabaret Convention, which "salutes the best in Manhattan cabaret", will be held once again at FREDERICK P. ROSE HALL (Columbus Circle, Broadway at 60th Street, NYC - CenterCharge: 212-721-6500 - ) on Thursday through Saturday, October 7th through 9th. Elaine Stritch will host a Noel Coward Evening on Friday the 8th. More details athttp://www.mabelmercer.org/ . This year marks the 25th anniversary of the Mabel Mercer Foundation's establishment. Ticket order forms will be mailed out in June.

Folks in the San Francisco area have a great reason to join as CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE members in the next few days. Russ Lorenson is doing a show from Thursday, May 27th through Sunday, June 27th at THE EUREKA THEATER (215 Jackson Street, San Francisco, CA - TKKTS: 415-674-3863 -http://www.brownpapertickets.com/ ). He's bringing his award winning "Benedetto/Blessed: A Tribute to the Life and Music of Tony Bennett" to THE EUREKA on Thursdays through Sundays (details in the listings section of the website). But here's the kicker: Tickets are $30 at the door, but members of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE (must show your card) pay just $10! As Gretchen's grandma would say, "How do you like them apples!"
