BOSTON: BILLY COBHAM SPECTRUM 40 AT THE REGATTABAR

The Billy Cobham Spectrum 40, featuring Billy Cobham - drums, Dean Brown - guitar, Gary Husband - keyboards and Ric Fierabracci - bass will appear at THE REGATTABAR at the Charles Hotel (1 Bennett Street, Cambridge, MA - 617-395-7757) on Friday, September 12th at 7:30 pm. Ever since his breakthrough in the early 1970s-as a founding member of the Mahavishnu Orchestra, and as a drummer/leader whose recordings (such as Spectrum) and powerful, complex style of play exerted a strong influence on the course of jazz and jazz-fusion, Billy Cobham has remained a tireless musical explorer. Panamanian by birth, a New Yorker by upbringing, and a resident of Switzerland for more than 25 years, Cobham has pursued an ever-broadening, ever-deepening engagement with the world not only as a master drummer and percussionist but as a composer, producer, educator, and clinician who gives service through music even as he constantly expands his personal creative expression. There is a $30 cover.

BOSTON: JOHN PIZZARELLI AT SCULLERS

John Pizzarelli, the world-renowned jazz guitarist and singer, will perform atSCULLERS JAZZ CLUB (400 Soldiers Field Road, Allston, MA - 617-562-4111) on Friday & Saturday, September 12th & 13th with shows at 8:00 & 10:00 pm. Using performers like Nat "King" Cole, Frank Sinatra and Joao Gilberto and the songs of composers from Richard Rodgers, George Gershwin to James Taylor, Antonio Carlos Jobim and Lennon & McCartney as touchstones, John Pizzarelli has established himself as one of the prime interpreters of the Great American Songbook and beyond, bringing to his work the cool jazz flavor of his brilliant guitar playing and singing. TORONTO: MICAH BARNES AND HIS TRIO AT THE JAZZ BISTRO

Micah Barnes And His Trio will perform at THE JAZZ BISTRO (251 Victoria Street, Toronto, ONT, CA - 416-363-5299) on Thursday through Saturday, September 11th through 13th at 8:00 pm. Having cut his teeth in the cabarets and jazz clubs of Toronto as a young teenager, Micah became a well loved singer songwriter on the Queen Street scene before joining The Nylons and touring the world. Recording with the A Capella Pop act brought Micah into the global music scene and found him transplanting to Venice Beach, California where he launched a solo career touring the USA which led to his #1 international club hit "Welcome To My Head". Returning to the jazz oriented songwriting of his earlier years has resulted in a series of critically acclaimed solo recordings including "Domesticated", his most recent which saw Micah returning to tour Canada. Micah is also a highly respected vocal coach having just wrapped up coaching Golden Globe nominated actress Tatiana Maslani on the hit BBC America series "Orphan Black".
