PALM SPRINGS: KRISTIN TOWERS-ROWLES WITH "MY LOVELY LINEAGE"

Singer and actress Kristin Towers-Rowles returns after 4 years to THE ARTHUR NEWMAN THEATRE at the JOSLYN CENTER (73-750 Catalina Way, Palm Desert, CA - TKTS: 760-325-2731) in her well-received one-woman show "My Lovely Lineage" on Sunday, September 7th at 2:00 pm. The show is part of Les Michaels' Sundays In Summer Series. The show will feature songs and stories about and her famous family and growing up in Hollywood along with highlights from her own well established stage career, with local musical director Joel Baker accompanying her on piano. Kristin's childhood was typical of most little girls dreaming of stardom, and why not? When your grandmother is MGM musical star Kathryn Grayson, your grandfather, stage and film star, Johnny Johnston, your mother, actress and singer Patricia Towers, your father, film, TV and radio star, Robert Towers, and even her brother Jordy Towers is a singer and recording artist. You begin to see how fitting the title is. Winning numerous awards for her even more numerous roles, a few of Kristin's favorites include Madnolia in Showboat, Audrey in Little Shop Of Horrors, Kate in Kiss Me Kate, and Sarah Brown in Guys And Dolls. But it wasn't just handed to her because of her family. Kristin has studied extensively in dance, acting, and voice with many teachers including her grandmother who would tell her, "you have to learn to walk, before you can run". There is an $11 cash cover.

SAN FRANCISCO: SALIF KEITA - ACOUSTIC TOUR

Salif Keita will perform atYOSHI'S (1330 Fillmore Street, San Francisco, CA - 415-655-5600) on Sunday, September 7th with shows at 8:00 & 10:00 pm and on Monday, September 8th at 8:00 pm. Salif Keita gave up a lot to pursue his dreams of a career in music. Born albinos, he was cast out by his family and ostracized by the community. In Mandinka culture albinism is seen as a sign of bad luck and there are beliefs that it's a mark of the devil. From a royal lineage, with ancestral roots going back to Soundjata Keita, the founder of the Malian Empire in 1240, Keita was disowned by his father after announcing his plans to play music. Keita's dreams, however, were too strong to be shattered. Keita has extended musical frontiers and carved out a distinctive musical voice, in which rock, funk and jazz combine with the deepest West African griot traditions. He has received musical as well as political and humanitarian acknowledgements, and, throughout his life, has tried to transmit a message of peace through his stunning music which has dictated the standards of contemporary mandingo creation. There is a $29-$35 cover.

SAN FRANCISCO: PAMELA ROSE TO SALUTE THE MUSIC OF DOROTHY FIELDS

Bay Area chanteuse Pamela Rose will appear at FEINSTEIN'S AT THE NIKKO (222 Mason Street, San Francisco, CA - 866-663-1063) for one performance only on Sunday, September 7th at 7:00 pm. Rose, along with pianist Tammy Hall, will salute the music of Dorothy Fields ("The Way You Look Tonight," "I Won't Dance," "Big Spender"), followed by a "songbook sing-a-long" with the audience - lyrics supplied! Boasting a rich, bold voice and a swinging soulful style, Pamela Rose has been wowing audiences at home and internationally for many years. She is that rare breed of entertainer who connects solidly with her audience by always delivering a personal and unforgettable musical experience. Her sold out appearances at the Monterey Jazz Festival and SFJazz while touring with her Wild Women of Song: Great Gal Composers of the Jazz Era show from London to Los Angeles, have earned Rose that coveted title of both fan and critical favorite. There is a $15 cover plus a $20 food/drink minimum.
