NYC: NATALIE DOUGLAS "FOUR WOMEN" AT BIRDLAND

The Broadway at Birdland concert series is pleased to welcome Natalie Douglas back to BIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080) on Mondays, September 8th at 7:00 pm and 15th at 9:30 pm. Her show, Four Women, will celebrate the music of Dr. Nina Simone, Lena Horne, Abbey Lincoln and Billie Holiday. Seven-time MAC Award, Backstage Bistro Award and Nightlife Award Winner Natalie will present the US premiere of the show that she presented recently in London's famed THE CRAZY COQS AT BRASSERIE ZEDEL She and her Musical Director Mark Hartman, of Broadway's Avenue Q and Sondheim on Sondheim, have created an exciting program of songs connected with these dynamic, iconic women - including "Can't Help Lovin' That Man," "Throw It Away," "God Bless The Child," and, of course, Dr. Simone's legendary composition, Four Women. There is a $30 cover plus a $10 food/drink minimum.

NYC: JIM CARUSO'S "CAST PARTY" MONDAYS AT BIRDLANDFEATURED OPEN MIC EVENT

Every Monday night at 9:30 pm, Broadway impresario Jim Caruso hosts "Cast Party", a combination open-mic, networking event and party at BIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080) during which the biggest stars on Broadway relax on their night off by performing their favorite songs in an informal setting. Cast Party is a mix of music, impromptu performance and cocktail party revelry, where showbiz superstars, stunning jazz talents and cabaret glitterati hit the stage alongside up-and-comers to serve up jaw-dropping music and general razzle-dazzle. It's the ultimate spot to mix and mingle with talented show folk and their fans. There is a $20 cover plus a $10 food/drink minimum.

NYC: MARK GUILIANA'S BEAT MUSIC - LABEL LAUNCH /CD RELEASE

Drummer Mark Cuiliana will celebrate the launch of a new label and a new CD at THE BLUE NOTE (131 West 3rd Street, NYC - 212-475-8592) on Monday, September 8th with shows at 8:00 & 10:30 pm. He is joined by Chris Morrissey - Electric Bass; Yuki Hirano - Keyboards; Jason Lindner - Keyboards with Special Guests: Steve Wall - Electronics; Jeff Taylor - Vocals; and Gretchen Parlato - Vocals. Mark Guiliana is an acclaimed drummer, composer, educator, producer and founder of the independent record label, Beat Music Records; through which, he will release both My Life Starts Now and Beat Music: The Los Angeles Improvisations as a bandleader later this year. His forward-thinking, conceptual approach to the instrument is also featured in Mehliana, the electric duo featuring Brad Mehldau on keyboards and synthesizers. The group's highly anticipated debut album, Taming the Dragon (Nonesuch), was released in early 2014. There is a $10-15 cover.

NYC: THE LADYBUGS AT DIZZY'S

The Ladybugs, a traditional jazz harmony group known for intricate vocal harmonies and experimental arrangements, will perform at DIZZY'S CLUB AT JAZZ AT LINCOLN CENTER (33 West 60th Street, NYC - 212-258-9595) on Monday, September 8th with shows at 7:30 & 9:30 pm. Lead by Martina DaSilva, all members of the band sing while playing ukulele, guitar, trumpet, bass, and drums. They are Martina DaSilva, vocals, drums; Kate Davis, vocals, ukulele; Joe McDonough, trombone; Josh Holcomb, trombone; Gabe Schnider, guitar; and Russell Hall, bass. The Ladybugs' repertoire includes favorites from the 1920s, '30s, and '40s, infused with old-school swing and blues, plus a dash of klezmer flavor. Popular among audiences that range from lindy hoppers to modern jazz aficionados, the Ladybugs effortlessly keep audiences smiling and moving. Congratulations to ukulele player and vocalist Kate Davis for recently winning the prestigious Sarah Vaughan International Vocal Competition Rising Star award! The event is part of the fifth annual Coca-Cola Generations in Jazz Festival. There is a $25 cover.
