PALM SPRINGS: JAN ABRAMS WITH "I'LL BE SEEING YOU"

Los Angeles cabaret singer Jan Abrams will perform "I'll Be Seeing You" at THE ARTHUR NEWMAN THEATRE at the JOSLYN CENTER (73-750 Catalina Way, Palm Desert, CA - TKTS: 760-325-2731) on Sunday, October 5th at 2:00 pm. She is joined by musical director Christopher Marlowe on the baby grand. The event is part of Les Michaels' Sundays in Summer Series. Ms. Abrams was born in Bronx, New York, with a father and two uncles in piano tuning and a love for the Great American Songbook and her uncle Victor Abrams wrote songs recorded by Dinah Washington, Dean Martin, Sarah Vaughn, and Nat King Cole. Jan remembers everyone coming for Sunday supper and to sing standards and Broadway show tunes to the wee hours. After graduation she moved to Manhattan and discovered and loved of the intimacy of cabaret performance and began singing regularly at the West Village's Scene One and Manhattan's Duplex, Grand Finale, Freddy's, Panache, Don't Tell Mama, and Eighty-Eight's. When Jan moved to Los Angeles she continued with shows at The Cinegrill, Masquer's, Catalina, and The Gardenia, as well as two previous shows at Joslyn Center and one at Annenberg Theatre. But her musical programs for seniors in retirement communities and Alzheimer facilities are one of her greatest joys. There is an $11 cash cover.

LOS ANGELES: KRITZERLAND CELEBRATES 50th SHOW

Having just celebrated their four-year anniversary, Bruce Kimmel's KRITZERLAND now gets ready to celebrate again, this time with their 50th show. The event will be held at STERLING'S AT THE FEDERAL(5303 Lankershim Boulevard, North Hollywood, CA - 818-754-8700) on Sunday, October 5th at 7:00 pm. Featured in the cast are Sandy Bainum, Heather Lee, Jenna Lea Rosen, Brent Schindele, and John Sloman. Bruce has chosen an eclectic mix of material, from classic show tunes, to lesser-known rarities to originals (several in this show). In addition to a great cast the show features a special guest, who's one of Kritzerland's favorites, Andrea Marcovicci. There is a $15 cover plus a $10 food minimum plus a $4 facility charge.

SAN FRANCISCO: VARLA JEAN MERMAN TO MAKE FEINSTEIN'S DEBUT!

Varla Jean Merman makes her long awaited return to San Francisco for her debut at FEINSTEIN'S AT THE NIKKO (222 Mason Street, San Francisco, CA - 866-663-1063) for three performances only, on Friday, October 3rd at 8:00 pm; Saturday, October 4th and Sunday, October 5th at 7:00 pm. Varla Jean, aka Jeffery Roberson, unveils a show of hilarious songs, videos and fabulous costumes, featuring Tom Shaw at the piano and Roberta Drake on drums. Jeffery Roberson starred in the musical Lucky Guy opposite Leslie Jordan Off-Broadway at the Little Shubert Theatre. He played the title role of Giancarlo Menotti's opera The Medium in New York at the Marjorie S. Deane Little Theatre last fall Off-Broadway. There is a $35-$55 cover plus a $20 food/drink minimum.

SAN FRANCISCO: FOURPLAY AT YOSHI'S

The contemporary jazz quartet Fourplay will perform at YOSHI'S (1330 Fillmore Street, San Francisco, CA - 415-655-5600) on Saturday, October 4th with shows at 8:00 & 10:00 pm and Sunday, October 5th with shows at 6:00 & 8:00 pm. For two decades, Fourplay has enjoyed consistent artistic and commercial success by grafting elements of R&B, pop and a variety of other sounds to their unwavering jazz foundations. In the course of a dozen recordings - six of which have climbed to the top of Billboard's Contemporary Jazz Album charts - the supergroup has continued to explore the limitless dimensions and permutations of jazz while at the same time appealing to a broad mainstream audience. There is a $35 - $64 cover.
