NYC: DONNA VIVINO IN "BEAUTIFUL DREAMER" AT BIRDLAND

Donna Vivino weaves diverse songs into a thematically-cohesive collection from Broadway, Hollywood and Tin Pan Alley in her show "Beautiful Dreamer" atBIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080) on Monday, April 21st at 7:00 pm. Theater fans in particular will appreciate her bold reinvention of "Castle on A Cloud" from Les Miserables - which she introduced at age 8 as Broadway's original Young Cosette. Other highlights include a stirring "When Day Is Done" and an ingenious cool-jazz arrangement of the iconic standard "Over the Rainbow." She will also personalize works by Rodgers and Hart ("My Romance"), George and Ira Gershwin ("They Can't Take That Away From Me"), Antonio Carlos Jobim ("How Insensitive"). In this outing, Donna shares the stage with both her sax and flute-playing father, Jerry Vivino, and guitar-playing uncle Jimmy Vivino. The Vivino Brothers can be seen and heard in the house band on the TBS late-night talk show "Conan." Rounding out the band will be drummer Shawn Pelton, (Saturday Night Live), bassist Conrad Korsch (Rod Stewart), and pianist Ken Levinsky (Woody Allen and John Pizzarelli). Donna Vivino starred for two years as Elphaba in the First National Tour of Wicked and performed the role on Broadway. There is a $25 cover plus a $10 food/drink minimum.

NYC: JIM CARUSO'S "CAST PARTY" MONDAYS AT BIRDLANDFEATURED OPEN MIC EVENT

Every Monday night at 9:30 pm, Broadway impresario Jim Caruso hosts "Cast Party", a combination open-mic, networking event and party atBIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080) during which the biggest stars on Broadway relax on their night off by performing their favorite songs in an informal setting. Cast Party is a mix of music, impromptu performance and cocktail party revelry, where showbiz superstars, stunning jazz talents and cabaret glitterati hit the stage alongside up-and-comers to serve up jaw-dropping music and general razzle-dazzle. It's the ultimate spot to mix and mingle with talented show folk and their fans. There is a $20 cover plus a $10 food/drink minimum.

NYC: KENDRA ROSS AT THE BLUE NOTE

Kendra Ross will perform at THE BLUE NOTE (131 West 3rd Street, NYC - 212-475-8592) on Monday, April 21st with shows at 8:00 & 10:30 pm. She is backed by Big Yuki, keys; Christian Ver Halen, guitar; Nate Jones, bass; Shaun Kelly, drums; Frances Elizee, vocals; Khadijah Carter, vocals; and special guest Talib Kweli, MC. Ross is a gifted singer and performer who has built an impressive career playing to her strengths in an effort to stand out from the crowd. With her uniquely rich contralto vocal stylings and impressive songwriting talent, she is an artist in high demand. A proud Pittsburgh native who currently resides in Brooklyn, Ross launched her professional career as a theater singer and actress starring in a national tour of the Broadway smash hit Smokey Joe's Cafe, along with Rita Coolidge and Gary "U.S." Bonds. She has since become an accomplished solo artist, appearing at legendary venues like the Blue Note and Highline Ballroom in New York City, the Arena Theater in Houston, and the Jazz Cafe in London. She has opened for many world-renowned artists, including Babyface, Isaac Hayes, Ryan Shaw, and Lalah Hathaway, and she was one of a handful of soul artists invited to showcase at the 2009 SXSW Music Festival. There is a $10-$15 cover.
