NYC:
ONE NIGHT ONLY! RICHARD MALAVET AT THE MET!
A MARCH IS CABARET MONTH EVENT

Acclaimed jazz stylist Richard Malavet returns to THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) on Friday, March 18th at 7:00 pm with his critically acclaimed show: The Billy Eckstine Project: Songs in the Key of "B". This is a one night only performance, as Mr. Malavet revisits another singing idol from the past. Recently, he presented Very Good Years: The Intimate Sinatra to rave reviews. Billy Eckstine was the legendary heartthrob (from the same era as Sinatra) who rose to fame with such hits and signature tunes as "Skylark," "I Apologize," "A Cottage For Sale" and "Prisoner of Love." For a while, his career surpassed Sinatra's in airplay and popularity. He made his mark on the Great American Songbook. He also discovered Sarah Vaughan as well as played a major role in bringing jazz icons Miles Davis and Charlie Parker to the public eye. And, he was the very first black romantic singer of his day. Interwoven throughout the show is a fascinating blend of anecdotes and music that showcases the musical mastery and stylish balladry of Eckstine. It shares gems of music history such as how he got his big break thanks to a legendary artist and the jazz innovators/legends he discovered and mentored during his long and storied career. Joining Richard will be respected musical director/arranger Lafayette Harris, Jr. on piano, Carlo De Rosa on bass, four time Grammy winner Vince Cherico on drums, Grammy and Latin Grammy winner Peter Brainin on tenor sax and Tim Ouimette on trumpet. There is a $25 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.
