NYC: RICHARD HOLBROOK SINGS RODGERS WITH A LOT OF HEART

Singer Richard Holbrook presents a musical tribute to the celebrated composer Richard Rodgers (1902-1979) at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) on Monday, March 14th, at 7:00 pm. Throughout his brilliant career, Rodgers wrote unforgettable songs for the Broadway stage and Hollywood film musicals with such gifted and prolific lyricists as Lorenz Hart, Oscar Hammerstein, and Stephen Sondheim. Holbrook, a two-time MAC Award nominee, will be singing Rodgers songs from such classic Broadway shows as A Connecticut Yankee, Spring Is Here, Jumbo, Babes in Arms, Too Many Girls, Carousel, No Strings, and Do I Hear A Waltz? Also featured are songs from memorable movie musicals such as Love Me Tonight and Mississippi. Holbrook will be accompanied by the Tom Nelson Trio – Tom Nelson on piano; Tom Kirchmer on bass; and Peter Grant on drums. Tom Nelson is Musical Director. Veteran Broadway and cabaret performer Richard Barclay will direct the show. Born in New York City, Richard grew up in the small town of Congers, New York, as the middle child in a family of nine. At an early age he became addicted to watching old films, especially the great Hollywood musicals. He dreamed of becoming a movie star. He literally taught himself how to sing by listening to the recordings of Fred Astaire, Judy Garland, and Bing Crosby and by watching their films. Richard's chance to see whether he could really sing happened when he was a freshman in high school. He believed enough in himself to audition for the school production of How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying with the song "I Believe In You." The result was "they" believed in him and gave him a role in the show. This began a life-long love affair with performing. After high school he studied music and drama at Curry College in Milton, MA. Returning to New York, he found success as an actor on such hit television series as The Sopranos and Spin City. No stranger to daytime television, he frequently appeared in All My Children and One Life to Live. Regional theatre productions included leading roles in Deathtrap and The Subject Was Roses. There is a $22.50 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.
