NYC: SALON RETURNS - THEME FOR THE EVENING: "THANKFUL"
SALON - that unique, multiple award winning, Weekly Open Mic Event, created and hosted by Mark Janas will return to ETCETERA ETCETERA(352 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-399-4141) on Sunday, November 22nd from 7:00-10:30 pm. (Sign-Up Begins at 6:15.) The optional theme for the evening is "Thankful". Remember, any material, on or off theme, is always welcome at Salon. Co-Host will be Eve Eaton! Salon Spotlight will feature Multiple MAC Award Winner Sue Matsuki & Bistro Award Winner Edd Clark. The Salon events are produced by Tanya Moberly. Salon is an ongoing open entertainment event in which singers, writers and musicians share their talent with each other and audience members. There are no reservations; seating is on a first come/ first served basis. All types of material, on or off theme are always welcome at Salon. They enthusiastically welcome instrumentalists, poets, playwrights, essayists, comics, illusionists and performance artists. Please limit your selections to three or four minutes in length (including introductions). Please also bring clear, complete charts for the accompanist to read. NYC: TASTE OF BUDAPEST - HUNGARIAN THEATER SHOW BY PILVAX PLAYERS THEATER
Pilvax Players, an independent, Hungarian-American acting company, presents 'Taste of Budapest' at THE DUPLEX CABARET THEATRE (61 Christopher Street, NYC - 212-255-5438) on Sunday, November 22nd at 4:00 pm. Pilvax Players was created by both professional and amateur acting enthusiasts, with an innovative mind-set to bring an infinitely open variety of productions to an international audience and to provide a responsive scene for its members' artistic growth. With themes ranging from the classics to today's most contemporary works, the company's goal is to create a bridge between, and a fusion of, the standard and the avant-garde. Their upcoming production, 'Taste of Budapest' is a selected stories and songs from the Jazz Age to the "The Hungarian Jungle Book", a contemporary musical with jazz elements. NYC: RELATIONSHIPS, ALMOST ROMANTIC
"Relationships - Almost Romantic" will be presented at THE DUPLEX CABARET THEATRE (61 Christopher Street, NYC - 212-255-5438)Sunday, November 22nd at 9:30 pm. The show is a one-act comedy written and directed by Leandro Muniz that applies a non-conventional approach to relationships and exposes the well-known struggles of romantic love. Topics such as casual sex, open relationships, infatuations, taboos, cheating, crumbling marriages and falling in love in times of online dating come to life in a way that everyone can identify. The play combines sketch comedy, standup and musical. It's a contemporary play: think New York I Love You meets Short Cuts showcasing unusual characters in eccentric relationships. At the same time, dark and satirical, philosophical and funny, and even sometimes edgy, just like any love affair. The cast includes Julia Melim, Brett Siddell, Scott Johnson, Madison Malloy, Maya Klausner, Vanessa Jardim, and Diego Ajuz. There is a $20 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.

Sunday Open Mic comes to THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) on the 2nd & 4th Sundays each month from 12:00 noon to 2:30 pm (signup ay 11:30 am). Presented and hosted by Susan Winter and Deb Berman, the "OPEN MIC AT THE MET" is not your average Open Mic since it will be presented on the iconic stage, with amazing acoustics, high-end equipment, and experienced sound engineer to help create a concert-like experience in Metropolitan Room's friendly, warm environment. Charles Baran, a rising actor and performer who in 2013 left a successful career in Design Management to become a full time actor, performs at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) on Sunday, November 22nd at 4:00 pm. His career thus far has been marked with many successes in many prestigious roles, among which have been Larry Foreman in The Cradle Will Rock at Theater 80 St. Marks in NYC, Geoffrey in the new comedy Geoffrey and Jeffrey in the Thespis Festival at Cabrini Rep in NYC, (nominated for 2013 Best Actor Award), a featured role in Harold Rome's Pins and Needles at Theatre 80 St. Marks and LaMama in NYC, The Kingdom at Mabou Mines, Walkabout Yeolha at Columbia Stages, Clyde Tolson in The File on J. Edgar Hoover in the 2013 Fresh Fruit Festival, Emmet Watson in Juan and Emmet and his favorite role to date Burke Kendall in 2013's revival of Stand Up Tragedy. On February 14, 2014 Charles debuted his first club act - Charles Baran's Saint Valentine's Day Massacred! at Sophie's on West 53rd Street, NYC. His film credits include A Foreign Heart of Hope and the independent short Perspective. His upcoming projects include Horace Vandergelder in Hello Dolly at the Interlakes Theater in Meredith, New Hampshire, Artie in the new play The Home, and Sam Male in the webseries Watercooler Madness. Molly Ryanbrings her show 'Come Up and See Me Sometime - A Cheeky Tribute to Mae West' to THE METROPOLITAN ROOM(34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) on Sunday, November 22nd at 7:00 pm. Since moving to New York City from Roseville, CA in 2003, Molly Ryan has become one of the most sought-after vocalists on the New York jazz scene. She has performed at such prestigious Manhattan venues as the Cafe Carlyle, The Town Hall, The Waldorf Astoria, Rainbow Room, Birdland, and the Iridium. She has performed alongside such prominent jazz artists as Randy Reinhart, Jon-Erik Kellso, Bria Skonberg, Dan Barrett, Mark Shane, Rossano Sportiello, as well as with the preeminent 1920s-style orchestra, Vince Giordano's Nighthawks. She has headlined in Paris at jazz clubs such as the famed Le Petit Journal and Autour de Midi, and has been featured as a guest vocalist with Andrej Hermlin's Swing Dance Orchestra throughout Germany in a monumental tribute to clarinet legend Benny Goodman. Alex Rybeck, composer, arranger, and pianist, presents an evening of his music at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) on Sunday, November 22nd at 9:30 pm. Alex has worked with George Abbott, Hal Prince, Tommy Tune, and Burt Bacharach on Broadway in such musicals as MERRILY WE ROLL ALONG; GRAND HOTEL, TOMMY TUNE TONIGHT and DAMN YANKEES. He has served as musical director for numerous cabaret stars, including Faith Prince, Karen Mason, Tommy Tune, Lee Roy Reams, Jeff Harnar, Debbie Gravitte, Liz and Ann Hampton Callaway, Alexandra Haas, Marni Nixon ("The Voice of Hollywood"), Rita Gardner, Metropolitan Opera star Roberta Peters, and the legendary Kitty Carlisle Hart. Numerous CD's include solo albums by Liz Callaway ("Anywhere I Wander,"The Story Goes on", "The Beat Goes On") Liz and Hampton Callaway (Sibiing Revelry), Craig Rubano ("Finishing the Act"), Faith Prince ("A Leap of Faith"), Jeff Harnar ("The 1959 Broadway Songbook, "Because of You" and "Sammy Cahn/All the Way"), and "Leading Men Don't Dance", to name just a few. He has also written several original songs include "What a Funny Boy He Is" (recorded by Nancy LaMott) and "Sing Out" (premiered by the NYC Gay Men's Chorus at Carnegie Hall). He holds degrees from Oberlin College and NYU (his teachers included Stephen Sondhieim, Leonard Bernstein, Hal Prince, Comden & Green, Stephen Schwartz, and ArthurLaurents), and is a member of the Dramatists Guild and ASCAP. Directed by Sara Louise Lazarus. He is joined by Dan Gross, drums; Dick Sarpola, bass; and Special Guest Fiddler: Denise Stillwell. A number of performers have been invited to sing the songs including Joshua Dixon, Kevin Dozier, LaTanya Hall, Jeff Harnar, Jamie Hartman, Lina Koutrakos, Sally Mayes, Kissy Simmons, Mary Stout, KT Sullivan, Stacy Sullivan, Steve Washington and Jeffrey M. New York City's enormously popular nonprofit singing organization Vocal Ease will hold its first benefit performance at FEINSTEIN'S/54 BELOW (254 West 54th Street, NYC - 646-476-3551) on Sunday, November 22nd at 2:00 pm. The show will feature a cast of gifted performers presenting highlights from the Great American Songbook. Vocal Ease provides professional and heartfelt cabaret-style shows for New York City senior citizens at nursing homes, senior centers and senior residences. Its lively, audience-interactive performances have brought immeasurable joy and excitement to thousands for more than a decade. Karen Mason, cabaret and Broadway star who originated the role of Tanya in Mamma Mia, will headline the cast of artists, all of whom volunteer their time and talents to Vocal Ease. Carol Lipnik has announced a new lineup of guest stars for her weekly residency on Sundays at 7:30 pm at PANGEA(178 Second Avenue, NYC - 212-995-0900) that runs through January 31, 2016. Lipnik is a spellbinding, darkly-humorous singer and songwriter who blends folk music and art song with the classic nightclub tradition. Special guests currently scheduled are David Cale (October 25th), John Kelly (November 8th) and Dane Terry (November 15th), with others to be added. The concert engagement is produced by TWEED TheaterWorks (Lypsinka), DAX MGMT (Weimar New York, Joey Arias) and Pangea. Carol is acclaimed for her hauntingly beautiful multi-octave voice and enchanting performances of her own ecstatically melancholy and wrenchingly honest songs. Carol and her pianist Matt Kanelos will be performing selections from Almost Back To Normal, her new recording from Mermaid Alley Music.
