NYC: TOSHI CAPPUCCINO'S SOLO STANDUP SHOW THE GRASSHOPPER WINS
TKO Entertainment, Inc. and WAHAHA-Hompo announce Toshi Cappuccino's solo standup show The Grasshopper Wins will be presented at THE DUPLEX CABARET THEATRE (61 Christopher Street, NYC - 212-255-5438) on Tuesday & Wednesday, October 19th & 20th at 7:00 pm. The show is a comic reversal of Aesop's fable ;The Ant and the Grasshopper'. Unlike the dreary ant, Toshi has fiddled and played his entire life but has happily made it through more than a few cold winters. Expect highly irresponsible and occasionally embarrassing stories as Toshi recalls his scandalous adventures in the pursuit of life. Toshi Cappuccino has appeared at the Duplex 24 times since March 2013. His musical performances there have consistently sold out. His new standup show will be an adventurous departure for him. Cover charge is $0 and audience members get to decide at the end what they want to pay based on how much they enjoyed the show. This show is written, produced, directed and performed by Toshi Cappuccino. A native of Hakata, he is an entertainer, critic, producer, TV personality, and a voter for the New York Drama Desk Awards. Toshi is also member of WAHAHA-Hompo, one of Japan's biggest comedy troupes. There is no cover (must have reservation) - just pay what you wish at the end of the show - plus a 2-drink minimum.
NYC: JON SATROM - MIDDLE OF A MOMENT
Jon Satrom brings his debut cabaret show, Middle of a Moment, to DON'T TELL MAMA (343 West 46th Street, NYC - 212-757-0788) on Wednesday, October 21st at 7:00 pm. Satrom graduated from NYU in 2006 with a degree in Vocal Performance/ Music Theatre. Today he can be found working as a singing bartender at Don't Tell Mama and Brandy's Piano Bars. This debut show explores the decade or so that came in between, including his many years on the road touring in children's theatre productions, and some of the other experiences that led him to today. With Direction by Maria Gentile, Musical Direction by Nate Buccieri, and Featuring Laura Pavles. There is a $15 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.
NYC: LINDA SHELL - CLOSE TO YOU AT THE BEECHMAN
Music once considered "out of date" is now timeless: consider The Carpenters. Linda Shell brings her show 'Close to You' to THE WEST BANK CAFE/LAURIE BEECHMAN THEATRE(407 West 42nd Street, NYC - 212-695-6909 - ) on Wednesday, October 21st at 7:00 pm. Close to You" explores some of the stories behind the music, Karen's & Richard's own stories and Linda's own through classic standards and seldom heard gems. NYC: JULIE BUDD - THEY WROTE THE SONGS: REMEMBERING MR. SINATRA ... AND HIS FRIENDS
Julie Budd will perform, in Concert, at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM(34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) on Wednesday, October 21st at 7:00 pm. This is Julie's third appearance as Celebrity Artist in Residence at New York City's Metropolitan Room. Julie Budd's beautiful voice caresses and soars on this interesting, diverse selection of songs recorded by Sinatra. With each new release, Julie Budd's maturity, experience and heart become more sincere, more accomplished. This serves "Remembering MR. SINATRA" well. This project is a delight from first hearing. And it grows more with each replay. Julie Budd is considered to be one of the most exciting singers on the scene today and she has enjoyed a very multi-faceted career, that ranges from television to film, along with the New York stage and symphonies all over the country. NYC: JESSE POSA SINGS WHILE BILL GULINO SWINGS!
'Jesse Posa - Swinging as Sinatra!' will be performed at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM(34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) on Wednesday, October 21st at 9:30 pm. The show is a fun-filled musical celebration starring Jesse Posa, that brings the songs, the laughs and the charisma of Frank Sinatra back to life with the Bill Gulino trio and featuring very special guest Dean Martin (Joe Perce). Jesse Posa, a graduate of the Tisch school of the arts at New York University, studied acting at the Lee Strasberg institute. He appeared in Phillip Carlo's off-broadway production of "East of Evil" starring Frank Vincent and Tony Sirico of "The Sopranos". Jesse is one of the leading Frank Sinatra impersonators in the country and has appeared at numerous corporate events and private affairs. He has performed as "Frank Sinatra" on stage at Radio City Music Hall, in the off-broadway production of "Sinatra and Friends" and at BB King's in Times Square NYC in "Party with The Rat Pack". He recently flew to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates to appear at a surprise 80th birthday party. Jesse Posa performs his impression of a young Frank Sinatra when he performs as the Chairman of the Board singing Sinatra's biggest hits • New York New York, Summer Wind, Strangers in the Night, Fly Me to the Moon, My Way and more Frank Sinatra classic standards. Newly-married Broadway veterans Jarrod Spector and Kelli Barrett will perform at FEINSTEIN'S/54 BELOW (254 West 54th Street, NYC - 646-476-3551) on Tuesday through Friday, October 20th through October 23rd at 7:00 pm. Together they are bringing to life the greatest songs birthed from the greatest marriages. From Barry Mann & Cynthia Weil and Alan & Marilyn Bergman to Sonny & Cher to Beyonce & Jay-Z, the themes of love, heartbreak, triumph, and despair infuse not only these incredible songs but also the storied partnerships themselves. The night celebrates marriage as the powerful force behind this timeless music and tackles the difficult questions behind keeping it all together. Tony Award nominee Jarrod Spector originated the role of Barry Mann in Beautiful. Jarrod is also known for his vocal prowess in the role of Frankie Valli in Jersey Boys, which he played on Broadway. Kelli Barrett recently originated the leading role of Lara in Broadway's Doctor Zhivago. She has also appeared on Broadway in Wicked, Baby It's You!, and The Royal Family. NYC: TAMARA TUNIE KICKS OFF "MASH UP" NATIONAL TOUR AT FEINSTEIN'S/54 BELOW
On Wednesday & Thursday, October 21st & 22nd at 9:30 pm, and again on Wednesday & Friday, November 11th (9:30 pm) & 15th (7:00 pm), the incomparable Tamara Tunie will return to FEINSTEIN'S/54 BELOW(254 West 54th Street, NYC - 646-476-3551) for a highly anticipated show kicking off her national cabaret tour of "MASH UP" - including her favorites from her shows LEGENDS FROM THE BURGH and her debut cabaret performance YES, I SING!. The Pittsburgh daughter will wow audiences with a fresh take on the "Legends from The Burgh," where she repeats her sold out performance with additional, new songs celebrating the music of the legendary artists that hail from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the city of Three Rivers. From Lena Horne and Henry Mancini to Phyllis Hyman and George Benson, Tamara will celebrate the variety of composers and singers in four concerts at Feinstein's/54 Below. Known for her starring roles in films such as Flight with Denzel Washington, television series like Law & Order: SVU and the Sundance Channel's The Red Road, and on Broadway in Julius Caesar and Dreamgirls, Ms. Tunie holds a BFA in Musical Theatre from Carnegie Mellon University. She has performed in jazz concerts at the Allen Room/Jazz at Lincoln Center and Feinstein's with incomparable musicians such as Mike Renzi, Ted Firth, and Roger Humphries. She has also performed for the Mabel Mercer Foundation at Town Hall and at Symphony Space, bringing down the house with music from Billie Holiday to Cole Porter. Her performances in "All That's Jazz" have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for Penn State University/Allegheny County's Student Scholarship Fund.
