NYC: A GREENWICH VILLAGE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE EVENT: VILLAGE JAZZ ALIVE

The Greenwich Village Chamber of Commerce presents Village Jazz Alive presents This Year's Event Honors at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM(34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) on Tuesday, October 20th at 7:00 pm. The Dr. Lonnie Smith Trio will be the 2015 Honoree. Dr. Lonnie Smith is an unparalleled musician, composer, performer and recording artist. An authentic master and guru of the Hammond B-3 organ for over five decades, he has been featured on over seventy albums, and has recorded and performed with a virtual Who's Who of the greatest jazz, blues and R&B giants in the industry. Consequently, he has often been hailed as a Legend, a Living Musical Icon, and as the most creative jazz organist by a slew of music publications. Always ahead of the curve, it is no surprise Dr. Smith's fan-base is truly worldwide. The Village Jazz Legends Series, in support of the unique music culture of The Village continues the tradition of being A Cradle Of Artistic Expression And Individuality. VIP reception at 6:00 pm. NYC: JAZZ LEGEND ANNIE ROSS TUESDAYS THE METROPOLITAN ROOM

Jazz legend Annie Ross continues her unprecedented, record-breaking, multi-year run at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440), every Tuesday night at 9:30 pm. Ms. Ross has been an abundant contributor to the art of jazz for over 50 years. Born in the UK, she has been a permanent resident of the USA for many years and a US citizen since 2001. Annie Ross is one of the pioneers of vocalese and the composer of "Twisted", one of the most well known examples of that art, as well as "Farmers Market", "Jackie" and many others. A founding member of Lambert, Hendricks and Ross, considered the greatest jazz vocal ensemble of all time, her influence is present in all subsequent practitioners of vocalese. "Twisted" has been recorded by a host of vocalists, including some not normally associated with jazz, including Joni Mitchell and Bette Midler. There is a $25 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.

NYC: TOSHI CAPPUCCINO'S SOLO STANDUP SHOW THE GRASSHOPPER WINS

TKO Entertainment, Inc. and WAHAHA-Hompo announce Toshi Cappuccino's solo standup show The Grasshopper Wins will be presented at THE DUPLEX CABARET THEATRE (61 Christopher Street, NYC - 212-255-5438) on Tuesday & Wednesday, October 19th & 20th at 7:00 pm. The show is a comic reversal of Aesop's fable ;The Ant and the Grasshopper'. Unlike the dreary ant, Toshi has fiddled and played his entire life but has happily made it through more than a few cold winters. Expect highly irresponsible and occasionally embarrassing stories as Toshi recalls his scandalous adventures in the pursuit of life. Toshi Cappuccino has appeared at the Duplex 24 times since March 2013. His musical performances there have consistently sold out. His new standup show will be an adventurous departure for him. Cover charge is $0 and audience members get to decide at the end what they want to pay based on how much they enjoyed the show. This show is written, produced, directed and performed by Toshi Cappuccino. A native of Hakata, he is an entertainer, critic, producer, TV personality, and a voter for the New York Drama Desk Awards. Toshi is also member of WAHAHA-Hompo, one of Japan's biggest comedy troupes. There is no cover (must have reservation) - just pay what you wish at the end of the show - plus a 2-drink minimum.

NYC: CLUB GELBE STERN PERFORMS AT THE BEECHMAN

After a sell out season at NYMF 2014, Club Gelbe Stern brings her show to THE WEST BANK CAFE/LAURIE BEECHMAN THEATRE(407 West 42nd Street, NYC - 212-695-6909) on Tuesday, October 20th at 7:00 pm. The show tells the story of Erika Stern, a fictional Jewish chanteuse living and performing in Berlin as the Nazis begin their rise to power. Erika is provocative, sassy, feisty and above all determined to give a magnificent performance to her loyal audience. Using German, British and American cabaret music from the 1920's and 30's, Club Gelbe Stern offers audiences a glimpse of what it may have been like for Jewish performers in the final days of the Weimar Republic. There is a $25 cover plus a $20 food/drink minimum.

NYC: JARROD SPECTOR AND KELLI BARRETT AT FEINSTEIN'S/54 BELOW

Newly-married Broadway veterans Jarrod Spector and Kelli Barrett will perform at FEINSTEIN'S/54 BELOW (254 West 54th Street, NYC - 646-476-3551) on Tuesday through Friday, October 20th through October 23rd at 7:00 pm. Together they are bringing to life the greatest songs birthed from the greatest marriages. From Barry Mann & Cynthia Weil and Alan & Marilyn Bergman to Sonny & Cher to Beyonce & Jay-Z, the themes of love, heartbreak, triumph, and despair infuse not only these incredible songs but also the storied partnerships themselves. The night celebrates marriage as the powerful force behind this timeless music and tackles the difficult questions behind keeping it all together. Tony Award nominee Jarrod Spector originated the role of Barry Mann in Beautiful. Jarrod is also known for his vocal prowess in the role of Frankie Valli in Jersey Boys, which he played on Broadway. Kelli Barrett recently originated the leading role of Lara in Broadway's Doctor Zhivago. She has also appeared on Broadway in Wicked, Baby It's You!, and The Royal Family. There is a $45-$95 cover plus a $25 food/drink minimum.

NYC: GABRIELLE STRAVELLI AT FEINSTEIN'S/54 BELOW IN OCTOBER

Internationally acclaimed pop/ jazz vocalist Gabrielle Stravelli comes to FEINSTEIN'S/54 BELOW (254 West 54th Street, NYC - 646-476-3551) with a brand new show for three performances in October - Tuesdays, the 6th, 13th & 20th - all shows at 9:30 pm. Ms. Stravelli combines the soulful sensitivity of a vintage song stylist with a distinctly modern sensibility. Known for an intimate and unguarded connection with her audiences, Stravelli has gained a loyal following through tours with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, appearances at the 92nd St Y and at 54 Below in Sondheim Unplugged, 54 Sings Joni Mitchell, and 54 Sings Billy Joel. Gabrielle Stravelli's enthralling new show, her second collaboration with nightlife legend Marilyn Maye, will include tracks from her new release, Now I Know. Featuring her fearless and fresh takes on material both classic and new, this fast-paced evening will cover everything from well-loved standards like "Dream Dancing" and "Autumn Nocturne" to re-imagined pop hits such as Stevie Wonder's "You and I" to Stravelli's original compositions inspired by latin, jazz, R&B, swing and bebop.
