Two classically-trained virtuosic solo performers, Xi.me.na and Jessica Meyer use electronics and an array of cultural and stylistic influences to create truly original, groovy, and engaging music at JOE'S PUB at THE PUBLIC THEATRE (425 Lafayette Street, NYC - 212-967-7555) on Sunday, August 9th at 7:00 pm. To get the sounds she wants, Meyer goes beyond the conventional means of performing with her instrument: she drums on her viola, sings with it, turns the tuning pegs while performing, and draws the bow on many different places on the instrument (even on her microphone), all while using a loop pedal in a uniquely symphonic way. New York/ Venezuelan experimental musician, XI.ME.NA is an extremely eclectic songwriter. Armed with an array of digital and analogue technologies, XI.ME.NA uses her voice to blend the music of disparate times and places, creating alluring Sonic Collages all in real time. Xi.me.na migrates confidently between avant-garde opera and electronic pop: from stacked harmonies and joyful hooks, to moodier, reflective moments that showcase her sophisticated vocals. There is a $15 cover.
