NYC: LINDA MILLER'S LEGENDARY LADIES OF MUSIC
Linda Miller, singer/ actor /comic /impersonator returns to STAGE 72 (158 West 72nd Street, NYC - 212-362-2590) on Sundays, April 5th, 19th & 26th at 4:40 pm with her show 'Legendary Ladies of Music'. Linda will take you on a journey celebrating and honoring six wonderful musical ladies of history and now including Diana Ross, Celia Cruz, Ella Fitzgerald, Moms Mabley, Tina Turner & Jessye Norman. She is known as an established actor with several appearances on Law & Order, As the World Turns, Hope & Faith and recently playing Ronni Spector with Al Pacino in David Mamets HBO Film "Spector". She has performed for three United States Presidents, played in theaters in over 10 countries and with repeat performances at New York's Rainbow Room dazzling audiences everywhere she goes with her amazing vocal and physical versatility. Joining her in the show will be Broadway Star Patrick Jude (Judas in Jesus Christ Superstar, Marlow, Chess, Sweet Charity and more). The Show will also feature performances by Emcee Justin Hart and his gorgeous Vegas Dancers. There is a $20 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.
NYC: BROADWAY LOVES SAM SMITH AT 54 BELOW
On Easter Sunday, April 5th, at 7:00 & 9:30 pm, twelve of Broadway's most distinctive vocalists will celebrate four-time Grammy award winner Sam Smith at 54 BELOW (254 West 54th Street, NYC - 646-476-3551) in a concert of his signature songs of heartbreak, loss, and hope in Broadway Loves Sam Smith. At the 57th Annual Grammy Awards, Smith took home the coveted trophies for Best New Artist, Record of the Year and Song of the Year for his breakthrough single "Stay With Me," and Best Pop Vocal Album for his platinum-selling debut, "In The Lonely Hour." The 22-year-old British songwriter describes his album as his "way of defining 'what is love,' and how unrequited love is just as painful, just as powerful, as what we call 'normal' love." The star-studded cast of Broadway Loves Sam Smith will bring this emotional truth to the stage with the hit singles "Stay With Me," "Latch," "I'm Not The Only One," "Lay Me Down," and more fan favorites in an unforgettable evening of song. The starry cast is set to include Tony Award nominee Jeremy Jordan (The Last 5 Years, Newsies), Tony Award nominee Josh Young (Jesus Christ Superstar, Evita), Ben Platt (Pitch Perfect, The Book of Mormon), Carrie Manolakos (Wicked, Mamma Mia!), Ben Fankhauser (Newsies), Zak Resnick (Mamma Mia!, Piece of My Heart: The Bert Berns Story), Meghann Fahy ("One Life To Live," Next to Normal), Adrienne Warren ("Orange Is The New Black," Bring It On), Janet Krupin (If/Then, Bring It On), Daniel Quadrino (Newsies, NBC's "Peter Pan Live"), Isabelle ("American Idol") and Natalie Weiss (Everyday Rapture, Les Miserables). The band will feature Mairi Dorman-Phaneuf on the cello, Justin Goldner on the bass, David Cinquegrana on the guitar, Shannon Ford on the drums, and music director Benjamin Rauhala on the piano. The evening will be produced and directed by Rauhala. There is a $35-$85 cover plus a $25 food/drink minimum.
NYC: CUSH JUMBO - JOSEPHINE AND I AT JOE'S PUB
Following a critically acclaimed run at London's Bush Theatre, Olivier nominated actress and writer Cush Jumbo (The River, Julius Caesar, "Getting On") brings her one-woman show 'Josephine And I' to JOE'S PUB at THE PUBLIC THEATRE (425 Lafayette Street, NYC - 212-967-7555), running through April 5th at 7:00 pm, with an additional matinee show on Saturday, April 5th at 3:00 pm. Born into poverty in the slums of St. Louis, Josephine Baker became one of the most famous and groundbreaking stars of the 20th century. The first African-American performer to rise to international prominence, she was a French Resistance spy and civil rights activist who was married twice by age 16 and served as muse to Pablo Picasso, F. Scott Fitzgerald and Ernest Hemingway, who called her "the most sensational woman anyone ever saw." Now, nearly forty years after her death, Baker's life inspires a young woman to face up to the sacrifices required to follow one's dreams. Featuring swinging jazz and ragtime rhythms, this theatrical event directed by Tony nominee Phyllida Lloyd (Julius Caesar, Mary Stuart, The Iron Lady, Mamma Mia!) interweaves a modern day story of an ambitious young woman with the fascinating life of the peerless, fearless Josephine Baker. Tickets are $50. There is no food or drink minimum for this show.
NYC: NOCHE FLAMENCA AT JOE'S PUB
JOE'S PUB at THE PUBLIC THEATRE (425 Lafayette Street, NYC - 212-967-7555) presents a special run of shows by the dazzling "Soledad Barrio & Noche Flamenca," on Satruday & Sunday, April 4th & 5th at 9:30 pm; and Monday through Friday, April 6th through 10th at 7:30 & 9:30 pm. Noche Flamenca, whose vitality, energy and passion have won accolades around the world will continue the legacy that they have built at their New York City home. Noche Flamenca maintains the essence, purity and integrity of one of the world's most complex and mysterious art forms, creating powerful performances that radiate off the intimate Joe's Pub stage. The company was founded in 1993 by artistic director Martin Santangelo and his Bessie award-winning wife Soledad Barrio. Recognized as Spain's leading flamenco touring company, Noche has been hailed for its authentic performances of one of the world's most complex and mysterious art forms - without the use of tricks or gimmicks. There is a $35-$45 cover.
NYC: BIRDLAND JAZZ PARTY With NATALIE DOUGLAS - EVERY SUNDAY
Natalie Douglas takes over the reins of the internationally renowned Birdland Jazz Club's "Jazz Party With Natalie Douglas" every Sunday night at 6:00 pm at BIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080) . Joining Douglas will be her band, led by longtime musical director Mark Hartman. "Jazz Party" has most recently been hosted by Grammy-nominated vocalist Jane Monheit. Douglas, the seven-time MAC Award and Backstage Bistro Award Winner, has garnered rave reviews for her unique mix of jazz, blues, standards, pop, folk and country music. This past June, she received the 2014 Margaret Whiting Award onstage at Carnegie Hall from the Mabel Mercer Foundation & My Ideal Music. In September 2014, Natalie's portrait was added to the Birdland Jazz Club Wall of Fame. Her recent performances include concerts across the U.S. (Carnegie Hall, Birdland, Cafe Carlyle, and The Appel Room - formerly The Allen Room - at Lincoln Center) and across three continents (Montenegro, Greece, Corsica, Puerto Vallarta, London, Buenos Aires, Cancun & Germany.) In a Greenwich Village tradition, she also performs an annual New Year's Eve collaboration with Mark Hartman at the Duplex. Her solo recordings include her debut CD, Not That Different - which was nominated for a 2000 MAC Award for Outstanding Recording - and To Nina ... Live At Birdland, a concert recording of her one-woman show, To Nina: A Tribute to Nina Simone. Both CDs, available at iTunes and other outlets, continue to be featured on NPR and Sirius XM Radio. She also appears on Fine and Dandy for PS Classics and Broadway By The Year: 1940 on Bayview Records. Natalie is also an actor and can be seen in the feature film "The Camera's Eye," has appeared on ABC's "Cupid," and in many theatrical productions, including The People vs. Mona, Thalia Follies, theATrainplays (series 5-22) with The Neighborhood Playhouse, Hillside in Hell with 13th Street Rep and was a featured soloist at the York Theatre Company's benefit production of Children Of Eden at Riverside Church. There is a $30 cover plus a $10 food/drink minimum.
