BOSTON: REVOLUTIONARY SNAKE ENSEMBLE MARDI GRAS SHOW

After a sold-out show last year, Revolutionary Snake Ensemble returns to THE REGATTABAR at the Charles Hotel (1 Bennett Street, Cambridge, MA - 617-395-7757) on Tuesday, February 17th at 8:00 pm for a Mardi Gras party you will not want to miss! The evening will feature special guests Charles Neville, of the legendary Neville Brothers Band, and Godwin Louis, an amazing young sax player who was a finalist in the 2013 Thelonious Monk Institute Sax Competition, plus a visit from Charles' son, pianist Khalif Neville. Also featured will be the world premiere screening of live video from RSE's July 2014 performance in Venice, Italy! Two-time New England Music Award nominees Revolutionary Snake Ensemble's most recent release "Live Snakes" received airplay on over 100 radio stations throughout the US and Canada, received an Editor's Pick in Downbeat, and was listed on the CMJ Jazz Top-40 chart for almost 3 months. The CD has appeared on a number of Best of 2014 lists, including from CMJ, Tom Hull on the Web, WWOZ (New Orleans), and WMSE (Milwaukee). Recent RSE performances have included the UFO Festival in Roswell, NM; the Festival of Redentore in Venice, Italy; and the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC. The band will include Jerry Sabatini - Trumpet, Ken Field - Saxophone, Tom Hall - Saxophone, Phil Neighbors - Drums, Blake Newman - Bass, Charles Neville - Saxophone and Godwin Louis - Alto Saxophone. Grammy Award winning saxophonist Charles Neville is a member of the legendary Neville Brothers band. Born in 1938 in New Orleans, Neville has performed with James Brown, B.B. King, Bobby Bland, Ray Charles, Allen Toussaint, James Booker, Ernie K-Doe, Wilson Pickett, Big Joe Turner, and many more, and has led his own band, Diversity, since 1991. With gold & platinum records in six different countries, Neville has appeared on such popular TV shows as the "The Today Show," "Oprah," Saturday Night Live," "Tonight Show," and "Letterman." His ethereal performances at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival have made him an annual fixture there. Alto saxophonist Godwin Louis was born in Harlem, New York and began playing saxophone at age nine. Louis was a finalist in the 2013 Thelonious Monk Institute Sax Competition, and has studied and performed at the Institute with Herbie Hancock, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Clark Terry, Ron Carter, Jack Dejohnette, Jimmy Heath, Barry Harris, David Baker, Emeline Michel, Danilo Perez, John Scofield, Jeff "Tain" Watts, John Patitucci, Steve Coleman, Dick Oatts, Jason Moran, Nicholas Payton, Don Sickler, Chris Potter, and Terence Blanchard. His playing is featured on Dr. Michael White's latest recording "Adventures in New Orleans-Part 1". Louis has performed at the JVC Festival (New York), Blue Note (New York), Monterey Jazz Festival (California), Trinidad and Tobago Steelpan Jazz Festival, Nancy Jazz Pulsation (France), ArtSpring Performing Arts Center (Salt Spring Island, British Columbia), Sky Church - Experience Music Project/Science Fiction Museum (Seattle), LV's Uptown (Portland, Oregon), San Jose Jazz Festival (California), as well as in Haiti, Mexico, Costa Rica, and China. There is a $25 cover.

TORONTO: LENNY SOLOMON "BLUES VIOLIN" CD RELEASE

After 15 years as musical director of the Internationally acclaimed show Bowfire, Juno Award winning violinist (with Myles and Lenny) Lenny Solomon with his band is returning to his roots as a blues-based violinist at THE JAZZ BISTRO (251 Victoria Street, Toronto, ONT, CA - 416-363-5299 - ) to celebrate the release of his new CD 'The Blues Violin' on Tuesday, February 17th at 8:00 pm. Performing with a great 4 piece rhythm section (Lenny Solomon - violin, Mark Lalama - piano, Marc Ganetakos - guitar. Shelly Berger - bass and Steve Heathcote - drums), Lenny is introducing a new shade to the Blues. Reminiscent of Papa John Creach and Sugar Cane Harris, audiences will be amazed by what Lenny does to bring the Violin to the forefront of the Blues. All the tunes (except Winter Tears) were written by Lenny, guitarist, Marc Ganetakos and longtime collaborator and bassist Shelly Berger. As Lenny demonstrates in the show and on recordings, a number of influences and blues styles are present. New Orleans 2nd line, Chicago, Mississippi Delta, Funk and Hard-Driving Blues are all in a performance of The Blues Violin. There is a $15 cover.
