NYC: MONTY ALEXANDER: JAZZ AROUND THE WEST INDIES

Monty Alexander will present 'Jazz Around the West Indies' at BLUES ALLEY (1073 Wisconsin Avenue NW, Washington, DC - 202-337-4141) on Friday through Tuesday, December 26th through 30th with shows at 8:00 & 10:00 pm. In a career spanning five decades, pianist Monty Alexander has built a reputation exploring and bridging the worlds of American jazz, popular song, and the music of his native Jamaica. In the process, he has performed and recorded with artists from every corner of the musical universe and entertainment world, including Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Ray Brown, Dizzy Gillespie, Sonny Rollins, Clark Terry, Quincy Jones, Ernest Ranglin, Barbara Hendricks, Bill Cosby, Bobby McFerrin, Sly Dunbar, and Robbie Shakespeare. Tonight, Alexander and his award-winning group will keep the club moving for Jazz Around the West Indies, a unique showcase of genre- and culture-blending music. There is a $50 cover. 
WASHINGTON, DC: BEN'S ANNUAL BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION WEEKEND

Ben Williams, one of the newest and brightest musicians on the scene today, performs at BOHEMIAN CAVERNS (2001 Eleventh Street N.W., Washington, DC - 202-299-0800) on Friday & Saturday, December 26th & 27th with shows at 8:00 & 10:00 pm. Williams is helping to push the legacy of jazz forward and through the reflection of his own distinct sound and flavor in hip hop, gospel, and Rhythm & Blues. He is highly recognized as a national and international acclaimed bassist, bandleader, performer, music educator, and writer who has performed with the likes of Herbie Hancock, Wynton Marsalis, George Benson, Pat Metheny, Terrence Blanchard, Roy Hargrove, Benny Golson, Stefon Harris just to name a few; and has consistently toured the Continents of Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, and North & South Americas. Williams became a Grammy Award Winner with the Pat Metheny Unity Band for Best Jazz Instrumental Album of 2012. Recently, he received the 2013 DownBeat Magazine Critics Poll Rising Star Award for Bass; and the 2013 Michigan State University (MSU) Alumni Award for becoming and maintaining the highest of standards in his profession as well as in his personal life and as an MSU Alunnus which by the way, places him in the ranks of Magic Johnson who is also an MSU Alumnus Award Winner. BETHESDA, MD: THE DEANNA BOGART BAND PLUS THE ERIC SCOTT GROUP

Deanna Bogart, an award-winning multi-instrumentalist and multifaceted musician whose fans value the diversity of her genre-free zone, will perform at BETHESDA BLUES & JAZZ SUPPER CLUB (7719 Wisconsin Avenue, Bethesda, MD - 240-330-4500) on Friday, December 26th at 8:00 pm. As a bandleader/ singer/ songwriter/ producer/ pianist and sax player, Deanna combines the best of boogie-woogie, contemporary blues, country and jazz into a splendid blend she calls "blusion." Deanna's fusion of blusion (spontaneous, sophisticated, fearless and fun) has garnered her three consecutive Blues Music Awards' Horn Instrumentalist of the Year for 2008, 2009 and 2010 and an endorsement contract with Rico Reeds. She has won, at last count, 22 Wammies, the music awards for the hotly contested Washington, DC region. There is a $20 cover. 

PALM BEACH, FL: MARISSA MULDER AT THE ROYAL ROOM

Powerhouse singer Marissa Mulder will make her club debut at THE ROYAL ROOM at THE COLONY HOTEL (155 Hammond Avenue, Palm Beach, FL - 561-659-8100) Friday through Tuesday, December 26th through 30th at 8:00 pm. Marissa Mulder grew up in Syracuse, NY. She moved to New York City in 2007 and has gone on to become one of the most successful young cabaret artists on the NY scene. In 2011, she beat out 60 other singers to win the MetroStar Challenge at the Metropolitan Room. She has since performed at all the major clubs in NYC as well as touring throughout the country.
