Legendary jazz pianist Marian McPartland (1918-2013) left a body of work as a performer and composer rivaled only by her advocacy of the art form. As host of "Piano Jazz," she led the longest running cultural program in the history of National Public Radio, interviewing and performing with the giants of 20th century jazz. Stacy weaves storytelling and performances of some of the most beloved works from the American Songbook into a fascinating portrait of an Englishwoman who became an American jazz tastemaker. Featuring music of Duke Ellington, Richard Rodgers, Stephen Sondheim, Willie Nelson, and, of course, Marian herself. She is joined by Jon Weber (current host of "Piano Jazz") at the Piano, Steve Doyle on Bass. There is a $20 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.

NYC: DANCING WITH DEATH - THOMAS HONECK

The award winning Entertainer of Himself, Thomas Honeck, returns to the stage at THE DUPLEX CABARET THEATRE (61 Christopher Street, NYC - 212-255-5438) for his 3rd solo show after a seven year hiatus. Thomas was last seen in his MAC Award winning show "Dreaming Wide Awake," a show about how dreaming can alter the course of a life. When not on the stage, he has spent the last 17 years studying with Shamans from around the world. Despite all the cultural differences, what he resoundingly learned was that to truly celebrate life, you must fully embrace death. A self-proclaimed "Dark Humorist", Honeck's "Dancing with Death" carefully weaves crafted stories into songs to provide a thought provoking, but comic look at life through the eyes of death. It is a ruminating rumba on our relationship with Death and how her choreography can influence life, featuring songs by Peter Gabriel, Laura Nyro, Chris De Burgh and Mary Chapin-Carpenter. The dance card will be one of Music, Merriment and Madness - well, just a touch. Directed by his creative partner, Lisa Moss, the same team that produced the critically acclaimed "Social Intercourse" and "Sing Me A Story." Thomas and Lisa were both recently honored with a 2014 Bistro Award for being a highly innovative and creative team. Musical Direction by Andrew Sotomayor, with Jordan Jancz on cello. In lieu of a cover, please bring a check made out to "JDRF" (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) or The ALS Association for a suggested amount of $15 (or what you can afford) - cash or credit accepted, but it's just not a tax donation for you. The 2-drink minimum still applies.

In this semi-autobiographical show, John tells stories of love from his life and sings the songs that help him tell it, all woven through the prism of a journey that has taken him from New York to New York, and back again.
