TODAY IN NYC: WALLACE RONEY SEXTET AT BIRDLAND THROUGH SATURDAY
The Wallace Roney Sextet will perform at BIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080) Tuesday through Saturday, September 28th through October 2nd, with shows at 8:30 & 11:00 pm. The three-time Grammy Award winner has been highly acclaimed by fans, critics and his peers alike, and been nominated for numerous projects in which he was the featured performer and/or collaborator. Roney has been a key part of the band alongside artists such as Tony Williams, Ornette Coleman, Art Blakey, Elvin Jones, Philly Joe Jones, Walter Davis Jr., Herbie Hancock, Jay McShann, David Murray, McCoy Tyner, Sonny Rollins, Curtis Fuller, Carole King, Joni Mitchell, and Dizzy Gillespie, to name a few. He was one of the few musicians of his generation who learned and perfected his craft directly from alliances with Jazz Masters. There is a $30-$40 cover plus a $10 food/drink minimum.
