MORE "HERE & THERE" PART II - BLOG EDITION

MORE "HERE & THERE" PART II

More good news: Tracy Stark was able to rearrange her schedule in order to serve as musical director for our 20th ANNIVERSARY/BIRTHDAY GALA on Tuesday, July 13th at THE LAURIE BEECHMAN. We haven't set the ticket price yet, because we wanted to see how many sponsors would step forward. Every sponsor that's added means a buck or so off the price we need to charge to show a profit. Plus, for this show, we are setting aside some free seats for press.

It's been a little discouraging this year with the low number of renewals for 2010-2011 memberships, but a look at the continued financial breakdown - now worldwide and seemingly endless - I should not be surprised.

Now I will begin sending out invitations to performers to take part in the show - we begin ticket sales to members on Tuesday, the 1st of June, and I want to have a partial performer list by then. There are a few folks who I have been "saving" for this special 20th Anniversary show and they will be contacted first. Setting the show for a week later than the actual anniversary date of July 6th will allow us to ask a few folks who annually take a vacation over the 4th of July weekend and in the past didn't return in time for our previous shows. It should help us fill a few seats as well.

At the July show we give out two special awards: The Jeff Matson Award, for a person or persons who have demonstrated the qualities that Jeff had: creativity, originality, mentoring, in the the fields of cabaret directing, creation, writing and or design. And we also present The Dottie Burman Songwriter Award, in honor of one of the originators of the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE membership concept. Dottie helped us adjust to "going it alone" after I had been working for another cabaret organization for a few years, and facing retirement at the same time. It was her suggestion to offer memberships along the PBS model, to keep CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE going.

Last week I asked all CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE members to offer suggestions/nominations for each of these two awards. Nominees may not be folks who have won either of these awards previously (see the website for past recipients). If you're not a member, but would like to make a nomination, feel free to do so. Please include the reasons for your nomination, not just a name. I will make the final choice, but I may ask the "nominator" to make the actual presentation (not necessary if you are "not accustomed to public speaking). All nominations will be kept confidential.

Another reminder: no issue on Monday - we'll publish on Tuesday next week, and might skip the Thursday issue, or maybe send it out on Friday - depends how much new news comes in over the weekend. Mail has slowed down already with the weekend beginning.

Once again we have included in this issue nearly all the cabaret news items for which releases have been received through May, and even to June 16th (with the caveat described above). We have received nearly all of the June schedules from the cabaret venues, so there are more items for the first week or two in June that we couldn't get to. We try to stay three weeks ahead in our coverage in each issue - note that the CABARET EVENT LISTINGS on the website has items collected from these issues, going nearly to the end of June.

Every day we move all the shows from our CABARET LISTINGS for that date to the home (index) page of the website - http://www.cabarethotlineonline.com/ - and then a few hours later we post our special picks of the day from that list to the blog - http://cabarethotlineonline.blogspot.com/ , and at the same time we post a note on TWITTER - http://twitter.com/cabarethotline on each pick with a link to the item on the blog.

If you want to see what we write on Twitter, the feed appears on the home page of the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE website - we also "retweet" feed items of cabaret interest we find on other Twitter feeds we subscribe to. If you join and follow us on Twitter, we'll pass along your cabaret-related news to our almost 500 combined followers on our 4 feeds as well.

See a show or two this week! Visit our websites! Run a banner or sidebar ad! Join CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE for 2010-2011. Now - more than ever - cabaret (and CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE) needs your support. Every day, in every way, we're promoting cabaret!
Look for more news on the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE WEBSITE , on theCABARET HOTLINE ONLINE BLOG ( ) and updates, picks & reminders onTWITTER.

And that's just about the way it was. I still have a lot more to tell you about but we've run out of space so the rest will have to wait until Tuesday's issue.
