BOSTON: STANLEY SAGOV & THE REMEMBERING THE FUTURE JAZZ BAND

An Evening with Stanley Sagov & The Remembering The Future Jazz Band, with Special Guest jazz/rock guitarist Larry Coryell will be presented at THE REGATTABAR at the Charles Hotel (1 Bennett Street, Cambridge, MA - 617-395-7757) on Saturday, September 6th at 7:30 pm. Stanley Sagov is a dazzling jazz pianist and composer who is skilled on a number of musical instruments. Sagov also commands a full time career as a medical doctor, amazing his colleagues in both music and in medicine with his ability to lead such an intense dual life both as a physician and as a musician. Sagov's Band is thrilled to be re-joined for another evening at the RegattaBar with one of the pioneers of jazz-rock - perhaps the pioneer in the ears of some - Special Guest Larry Coryell. Coryell deserves a special place in the history books. He brought what amounted to a nearly alien sensibility to jazz electric guitar playing in the 1960s, a hard-edged, cutting tone, phrasing and note-bending that owed as much to blues, rock and even country as it did to earlier, smoother bop influences. Other members of the band are Wanetta Jackson on vocals, Robert Douglas Gay on alto sax, Bob Gullotti on drums, and John Lockwood on bass. There is a $30 cover.

TORONTO: THE ANDREW CRAIG QUARTET AT THE JAZZ BISTRO

Celebrated vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, producer, director and broadcaster Andrew Craig debuts a new musical sound with his all-star quartet at THE JAZZ BISTRO (251 Victoria Street, Toronto, ONT, CA - 416-363-5299) on Thursday through Saturday, September 3rd through 6th at 9:00 pm. Craig has long searched for the nexus point between jazz, blues, R & B, funk, Gospel and music of the African continent. His latest songs come closest to reaching that nexus point, and he is excited to debut them in public for the first time. Craig is thrilled to be supported by a world-class trio of musicians: Paa Joe - guitar, Rich Brown - bass and Altaf Vellani - drums and percussion. Andrew Craig creates and performs original music, directs orchestras and musical productions, produces albums, radio, and television, and composes for theatre. He's worked with artists such as Molly Johnson, Wynton Marsalis, Measha Bruggergosman and Kellylee Evans, opened for Bobby McFerrin, directed tributes to Oscar Peterson and Quincy Jones, and performed twice for Nelson Mandela. There is a $12-$15 cover.

TORONTO: YOUNG ARTIST SERIES: KRISTIAN PODLACHA

Kristian Podlacha will perform at THE JAZZ BISTRO (251 Victoria Street, Toronto, ONT, CA - 416-363-5299 - ) on Thursday through Saturday, September 4th, 5th & 6th from 6:00 to 8:00 pm as part of the club's Young Artist Series. Born into a musical family, Kristian started studying piano at 7 and was writing classically by 8. Early exposure to Oscar Peterson and Django Reinhardt caused him to fall deeply in love with jazz, a style of music that has shaped his life. Since then, he has explored and performed swing, French jazz manouche, contemporary jazz, and classical music. The result is a highly personal sound blending the harmony of French impressionists Ravel and Debussy with the passion of jazz manouche; all placed within the sophistication of modern jazz. He is currently studying piano at the University of Toronto with scholarship. There is no cover.
