NYC: FLY UP! WITH JOSHUA DIXON

Joshua Dixon, after thrilling audiences in Scott Evan Davis' PICTURE PERFECT, returns to THE DUPLEX CABARET THEATRE (61 Christopher Street, NYC - 212-255-5438) on Sunday, September 28th at 7:00 pm in his solo cabaret debut, FLY UP! Featuring songs by Rogers & Hammerstein, Bastille, Andrew Lippa, & Stephen Sondheim and others, the show will explore his trials, tribulations, and triumphs of growing up Mormon, or in fact, simply growing up. There is a $15 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.

NYC: CHRYSTEN PEDDIE: TOO DAMN TALL 

Metro-Star Top 10 Finalist, Chrysten Peddie, makes her full-length cabaret debut at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM(34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) on Sunday, September 28th at 7:00 pm. She tells, in this hour long examination, how being "Too Damn Tall" has affected her life both professionally and personally and the things she has learned from it along the way. Chrysten brings her strong, soulful voice and presence to a combination of music theatre, pop and rock tunes by such artists as Stephen Sondheim, Florence & the Machine, Marc Blitzstein, William Finn and The Rolling Stones among many others. Sometimes bold and brassy, sometimes introspective and vulnerable, an hour with Chrysten Peddie promises to be an hour of entertainment you won't soon forget! There is a $20 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.

NYC: THE MAGGIE ROSE SEXTET: COOL JAZZ FROM GERSHWIN TO BOSSA NOVA 

The Maggie Rose Sextet (Maggie Rose, Vocals; Marta Sanchez, Piano; Diego Porchile, Guitar; Richard Benetar, Clarinet; Sam Weber, Bass; and George Mel, Drums ) performs at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) on Sunday, September 8th at 9:30 pm. In recent years Maggie has returned to her first love, the American songbook. A native of Poughkeepsie, NY, Maggie's musical influences include Billie Holiday, June Christy, Ella Fitzgerald, and the young Doris Day. Maggie has performed as a jazz singer since 2002, but she is new to NYC. In Boston, Maggie sang at numerous venues, including a seven-month engagement at the Encore Lounge, The Hyatt Regency-Boston, the Boston Center for the Arts, The Fireplace, the Artists-at-Large Gallery, C. R. Sparks, Raffael's, Bob the Chef's, Kennedy's Midtown, The Hartwell House, The Barking Crab, and the Fairmont Copley Plaza. Maggie also performed live on WGBH's "Jazz Songbook." There is a $15 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.

NYC: THE BEST OF DINA MARTINA AT THE BEECHMAN

Dina Martina will bring her show THE BEST OF DINA MARTINA to THE WEST BANK CAFE/LAURIE BEECHMAN THEATRE (407 West 42nd Street, NYC - 212-695-6909) on Thursday through Sunday, September 25th through 28th at 7:00 pm. The show is a nearly indescribable night of unique entertainment that assaults the senses like no other show. Once again, Dina offers a delightful blend of unequaled song, unnecessary dance, unattractive costumes, and unbelievable video. She's the recipient of two GLAAD Media Award nominations for Best Off-Off-Broadway Show, two Footlight Awards from The Seattle Times (1999 & 2004), a 1997 nominee for a Seattle Stranger Fringe Theater Award for Best Solo Show, and a finalist for the 2007 Alpert Award. On August 15, 1969, the world erupted in a musical explosion when Woodstock kicked off for an unprecedented four day extravaganza in White Lake, NY. Now, 45 years later, 54 BELOW relives highlights of that incredible weekend in the history of music when leading voices from Broadway, cabaret and jazz converge for a night of peace, love & understanding. Starring: The Audiobodies, Rex Benincasa, Carole J. Bufford, Peter Calo, Scott Coulter, Natalie Douglas, Adam Fisher, Lauren Fox, Ritt Henn, Heather MacRae, Marissa Mulder, T. NYC: STACY SULLIVAN IS "ON THE AIR" A SALUTE TO MARIAN MCPARTLAND 

On Friday through Sunday, September 26th through 28th, acclaimed vocalist Stacy Sullivan, winner of the Nightlife, Bistro, and MAC Award for Outstanding Female New York Debut, pays tribute to Marian McPartland with the New York debut of "On the Air" at THE YORK THEATRE at Saint Peter's Church (619 Lexington Avenue, NYC - 212-935-5820 ext. 25)! Check their website for details. Legendary jazz pianist Marian McPartland (1918-2013) left a body of work as a performer and composer rivaled only by her advocacy of the art form. As host of "Piano Jazz," she led the longest running cultural program in the history of National Public Radio, interviewing and performing with the giants of 20th century jazz. "On the Air" weaves storytelling and performances of some of the most beloved works from the American Songbook into a fascinating portrait of an Englishwoman who became an American jazz tastemaker. Featuring music of Duke Ellington, Richard Rodgers, Stephen Sondheim, Willie Nelson, and, of course, Marian herself. Call for cover/minimum information.

EVERYTHING OLD IS NEW AGAIN, on the Radio over WBAI 99.5 FM and on the Internet at www.wbai.org/, usually heard from 9:00 to 11:00 pm on Sundays hosted by David Kenney. Each week David presents the usual blend of big-band jazz, swing, standards, showtunes, contemporary cabaret and celebrity interviews plus MEGA-MEDLEY MADNESS. On Sunday, September 28th David is back "LIVE!" with a free-form show patterned on the summer shows - and this will be done on the last Sunday each month.
