The musical takes place in a time, before the Casinos took over Atlantic City, when nightclubbing was in vogue with leggy show girls, hysterical comedians, and great singers & dancers. The most famous of the clubs on the musical street known as Kentucky Avenue was the Club Harlem. It was thought of as a "black Copacabana" and featured the major black talent of the era with flair, fashion and fantastic stage shows from Memorial Day to Labor Day. This musical revue is set during the Club Harlem dress rehearsal for opening night of the 1969 season. Within our fictional show, there is a love triangle between the MC, the lead show girl, and the featured female singer. The show features an original score true to the era, interspersed with classic songs from the 60s. The show stars Ty Stephens, Cheryl Freeman, Andricka Hall and features Lee Summers as comedian Slappy Black with special guest artist, Jeree Wade as singer, Damita Jo. Also appearing are Dancers (in alphabetical order) Donna Clark, Gregory J. Hanks, Mindy Haywood, Cassandra Palacio Renee Ternier, and two additional Male Dancers. The Musicians are Frank Owens, Wilbur Bascomb, Richard Cummings, Jr. and Damon Duewhite. The show concept was written & developed by Adam Wade and Ty Stephens. Original music is by Ty Stephens, Frank Owens, Branice McKenzie, Wilbur Bascomb, Adam Wade and Jeree Wade. The Musical Direction is by Frank Owens. The Choreography is by Ty Stephens with Swing Dance Choreography by Mickey Davidson. Showgirl Consultant is Betty Jo and Creative Consultant is Russ Weatherford. Costumes created by Ty Stephens and Pearl Williams. ON KENTUCKY AVENUE captures the feel and aura of the club, based on experiences of Adam and Jeree Wade who performed there during different eras - 30 years apart and were witnesses to much of the backstage intrigues that took place nightly. This new musical, which has been in development for the past 2 1/2 years is presented by Robert R. Blume, Songbirds Unlimited Productions, Peter Martin/Rick Newman in association with J.R. Knauf, Marshall N. Warner & Step Forward Entertainment. Jazz producing legend, Cobi Narita is Associate Producer. There is a $35-$45-$55 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.
