Acclaimed vocalist Tony DeSare returns to THE RRAZZ ROOM IN NEW HOPE (6426 Lower York Road, New Hope, PA - 888-596-1027) on Friday, September 26th at 8:00 pm with a brand new show: Night Life. He is joined by Tedd Firth on piano. The evening will explore some of the most hauntingly beautiful and memorable melodies ever written, both old and new. WASHINGTON, DC: TERENCE BLANCHARD AT BLUES ALLEY

New Orleans native Terence Blanchard will perform at BLUES ALLEY (1073 Wisconsin Avenue NW, Washington, DC - 202-337-4141) on Thursday through Sunday, September 25th through 28th with shows at 8:00 & 10:00 pm. In his teens Blanchard attended the New Orleans Center of Creative Arts, where he studied and played with saxophonist Donald Harrison. Harrison and Blanchard replaced Wynton and Branford Marsalis in Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers. Blanchard is well known as a performer and musical composer for films, including several by Spike Lee. For Lee's film Mo' Better Blues Blanchard was musical arranger and a trumpet coach for actor Denzel Washington. Despite his interest and participation in film, television and theater, though, Blanchard regards himself first and foremost as a jazz musician. Call for cover/minimum information.

WASHINGTON, DC: LARRY WILLIS AT BOHEMIAN CAVERNS

Keyboardist Larry Willis will perform at BOHEMIAN CAVERNS (2001 Eleventh Street N.W., Washington, DC - 202-299-0800) on Friday & Saturday, September 26th & 27th with shows at 8:00 & 10:00 pm. Once identified with on-the-edge free music, Willis had a profitable flirtation with fusion in the '70s, then moved to hard bop in the '80s and '90s. Willis' playing has been frenetic, ambitious, and interesting, but during his jazz-rock and fusion days it was funky but greatly restrained and simplistic. A devotee of Herbie Hancock, Willis has found a good balance, with expertly constructed modal solos and also lyrical, relaxed statements. Willis graduated from the Manhattan School of Music in the early '60s, then played with Jackie McLean and Hugh Masekela. He recorded with Lee Morgan and McLean in the mid-'60s, and worked with Kai Winding and Stan Getz, as well as recording with Robin Kenyatta in 1969. Willis turned to synthesizer and electric piano in the '70s, doing sessions with Cannonball Adderley, Earl May, Joe Henderson, Richard "Groove" Holmes, and Masekela again. Call for cover/minimum information.

BETHESDA, MD: DUKE ROBILLARD BAND WITH ANDY POXON BAND

Guitarist, Bandleader, Songwriter, Singer, Producer, Session musician Duke Robillard will perform at BETHESDA BLUES & JAZZ SUPPER CLUB (7719 Wisconsin Avenue, Bethesda, MD - 240-330-4500) on Friday, September 26th at 8:30 pm. He is also a one-man cheering section for the blues, in all its forms and permutations. And every one of those names has shared recording studio space or stage time with a man who is a legend in the blues community. The Blues Music Awards (formerly W.C.Handy Awards) have named Duke Robillard "Best Blues Guitarist" four years out of five (2000,2001,2003,2004) making him the second most honored guitarist for that award! He was also nominated in that category in 2005, 2007 and 2008. There is a $20 cover.
