NEW HOPE, PA: SHARON McNIGHT Is SOPHIE TUCKER In "RED HOT MAMA"

After nearly two decades of critical acclaim, standing ovations and extended engagements, Tony Award Nominee Sharon McNight's hit one woman show, "Red Hot Mama" based on the life, songs and humor of Sophie Tucker is on its final tour, with a stop at THE RRAZZ ROOM IN NEW HOPE (6426 Lower York Road, New Hope, PA - 888-596-1027) on Saturday & Sunday, July 5th & 6th at 8:00 pm. Audiences have thrilled to Sharon McNight as Sophie, many critics have proclaimed that she actually IS Sophie. This will be you your very last chance to see "Red Hot Mama", when it makes it's RRazz Room New Hope debut for two nights only! This is a strictly limited engagement and the show's only area appearance. Call for cover/minimum information.

WASHINGTON, DC: TOMMY CECIL & BILL MAYS "SONDHEIM DUO'S"

Tommy Cecil & Bill Mays "Sondheim Duo's" performs at BLUES ALLEY(1073 Wisconsin Avenue NW, Washington, DC - 202-337-4141) on Sunday, July 6th with shows at 8:00 & 10:00 pm. With "Side By Side Sondheim Duos", bassist Tommy Cecil and pianist Bill Mays continue a great tradition of piano/ bass duos which starts with Duke Ellington and Jimmy Blanton, and continues with the likes of Oscar Peterson and NHOP, Tommy Flanagan and George Mraz, and Bill Evans and Eddie Gomez. The freedom and intimacy it affords is exemplified on every track of the CD, from the exuberent "Comedy Tonight" to the wistful "Not While I'm Around" - whether trading melodies, or phrases, or nudging the dynamics during a solo. Stephen Sondheim's wonderful tunes are rarely, if ever heard in an instrumental jazz setting, because they are so deeply integrated into the shows from which they come. These performances present them in a different light, revealing nuances which might not otherwise heard. Call for cover/minimum information.

BETHESDA, MD: THE NIGHTHAWKS AND THE KINGS OF CROWNSVILLE

The Nighthawks and Kings of Crownsville will perform at BETHESDA BLUES & JAZZ SUPPER CLUB(7719 Wisconsin Avenue, Bethesda, MD - 240-330-4500) on Sunday, July 6th at 7:30 pm. Over more than three decades, The Nighthawks have earned a reputation as one of the best and hardest-working bands around. Their live shows are legendary. Founded in the Washington, D.C. area in 1972, the 'Hawks' were a roots band before anyone had come up with the term. Their mix of blues, rock, rockabilly, soul and swing appeals to a widely diverse audience, built over years of touring throughout the United States, Europe and Japan. Annapolis-based act Kings of Crownsville are a roots Rock band with a New Orleans flavor. The brainchild of New Orleans-raised guitarist/singer/songwriter Steve Johnson, the Kings play a rollicking, entertaining set that stirs Americana, Blues, and Jazz into the mix. Their signature horn section transports listeners to the streets of the Big Easy, while they also add precise three- and four-part harmonies to their musical gumbo. There is a $10 cover.
