NYC: KIM DAVID SMITH DEBUTS "STARGAZING" - AN ELECTRO-CABARET FANTASIA

Kim David Smith - the Australian stage performer - conjures the glitter and doom of Weimar-era Berlin with "Stargazing," a genre-mashing, electro-cabaret fantasia, premiering at JOE'S PUB at THE PUBLIC THEATRE (425 Lafayette Street, NYC - 212-967-7555) on Thursday, October 8th at 9:30 pm. Directed by Michael Rader (Cirque du Soleil), with music direction by Benjamin Ickies, and costume design by Miodrag Guberinic (Rebel Heart Tour), "Stargazing" is an intimately electronic reimagining of musical constellations formed from stars old and new, including Kurt Weill, Kylie Minogue, Friedrich Hollaender, Edith Piaf, Olivia Newton-John, Madonna, and Marlene Dietrich. Along with repertoire spanning the 1920's through to today, Smith's own pop originals will be represented, with selections performed from his electropop albums Nova and Supernova. Joining Benjamin on synthesizer and accordion on stage will be New York nightclub veteran, Tracy Stark on piano, and Broadway's Kevin Garcia on percussion. Kim David Smith is a Helpmann Award nominated singer and nightclub performer, known for his Weimar-era inspired works that juxtapose authentic musical material with stylistic takes on current popular tunes. His electro-pop albums Nova, Supernova, and cabaret EP, The Tease, are available worldwide on iTunes and Amazon. His cabaret programmes, Nova Noir, Misfit and Morphium have performed regularly in New York City at Cafe Sabarsky at the Neue Galerie, Joe's Pub at the Public Theater, the Laurie Beechman Theatre, the Due Theatre at DMAC, and Bard Spiegeltent at Bard College, while also touring Australia - presented at the Adelaide Cabaret Festival, The Festival of Voices, The Brisbane Cabaret Festival, Slide Cabaret Festival, The Ballarat Cabaret Festival, Chapel Off Chapel, the National Gallery of Victoria, and Smith's cabaret birthplace, Melbourne's Butterfly Club. NYC: THE METROPOLITAN ROOM PRESENTS THE SONGS OF BRIAN GARI

THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) presents 'The Songs of Brian Gari' on Thursday, October 8th at 7:00 pm. Performers scheduled to appear are Steve Ross, Shauna Hicks, Jeff Harnar and Tom Lucca. Gari has written nearly 900 songs, with his first song published when he was 15 and recorded when he was 17. He signed with Vanguard Records in 1975 recording for them through 1976. For the next few years he performed his songs in New York comedy and cabaret clubs such as the Ballroom, Reno Sweeney, Catch a Rising Star, the Improv, the Comic Strip and the Copa. All along he was writing what was to become his first Broadway musical, LATE NITE COMIC, which debuted in October of 1987 at the Ritz Theatre (now the Walter Kerr.) His songs have been performed and/or recorded by such artists as Margaret Whiting, the Tokens, Jana Robbins, Kaye Ballard, Lesley Gore & Andrea Marcovicci.nA HARD TIME TO BE SINGLE, a musical cabaret revue he conceived, premiered in October of 1990 and had successful runs at Don't Tell Mama, Eighty-Eights and Steve McGraw's in New York City with a CD released as well. NYC: "TO DAD, WITH LOVE - A TRIBUTE TO BUDDY EBSEN" BY KIKI EBSEN

Kiki Ebsen, daughter of legendary TV/ Film/ Theater star Buddy Ebsen, will be appearing live in New York City on Thursday, October 8th at 9:30 pm at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440 ) in a multimedia concert tribute to her dad. The live show, entitled "TO DAD, WITH LOVE • A TRIBUTE TO BUDDY EBSEN", will feature Kiki performing at the piano and singing with her band including saxman David Mann, keyboardist Henry Hey and drummer Clint de Ganon. Songs performed will include music from her latest CD, "Scarecrow Sessions", featuring standards from her father's illustrious stage and screen career including Kiki's re-workings of "Over The Rainbow", "Laura", "You Don't Know What Love Is", "Moon River" and "If I Only Had a Brain". Buddy Ebsen starred on TV for 9 years as patriarch Jed Clampett in "The Beverly Hillbillies" as well as TV detective "Barnaby Jones", Ebsen was hired as the original scarecrow in the Judy Garland film "The Wizard Of Oz", hence the CD's title. There is a $30 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.

NYC: BROADWAY'S LISA HOWARD AT FEINSTEIN'S/54 BELOW

After her rousing performance at the Tony Awards this year, Broadway powerhouse Lisa Howard makes her solo debut at FEINSTEIN'S/54 BELOW (254 West 54th Street, NYC - 646-476-3551) for 3 dates this fall! Performances are scheduled for Thursday through Saturday, Thursday, October 8th through Saturday, October 10th - all shows at 7:00 pm. Lisa was most recently seen on Broadway in her Drama Desk-nominated performance as Jenny in 'It Shoulda Been You'. She has also appeared on Broadway in the original companies of '9 to 5', 'The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee', and the 2008 revival of 'South Pacific'. Lisa has toured nationally with Les Miserables, and her other credits include many turns on the MUNY and PCLO stages. Lisa released her debut solo CD, Songs of Innocence and Experience: The Music of William Finn, in the spring of 2011. There is a $35-$80 cover plus a $25 food/drink minimum.

NYC: HALEY SWINDAL WITH 'PLAY TO WIN' AT FEINSTEIN'S/54 BELOW

Haley Swindal brings her show 'Play to Win' to FEINSTEIN'S/54 BELOW (254 West 54th Street, NYC - 646-476-3551) on Thursday, October 8th at 9:30 pm. 'Play to Win' tells the story of Haley's quirky journey charting her own path in the arts, using all that she learned from the passion and perseverance of her greatest influence: her grandfather, Yankees owner George Steinbrenner. With a mix of Broadway, folk, rock, and some zany stories along the way, Play to Win blends a little baseball with a lot of life and love. Haley has appeared on Broadway and on tour with Jekyll & Hyde, White Christmas, Jesus Christ Superstar opposite Ted Neeley, and as Grace Farrell in Annie opposite Sally Struthers. She has performed in concert at Carnegie Hall alongside the great jazz vocalist Steve Tyrell, acclaimed Irish tenor Ronan Tynan, and under the baton of Steven Reineke with the New York Pops. As a cable TV actress, she won a New York Emmy as the host of Kids on Deck, which ran on YES Network Television for two seasons. There is a $35-$80 cover plus a $25 food/drink minimum.
