NYC: RICHARD MALAVET - VERY GOOD YEARS: THE INTIMATE SINATRA

Returning to Manhattan cabaret after a brief hiatus, Richard Malavet brings his brand new show, Very Good Years: The Intimate Sinatra to THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) on Thursday & Friday, August 27th & 28th at 7:00 pm. Multi-Grammy nominee John di Martino will be musical director/arranger and pianist leading the band. This is the year of Frank Sinatra's centennial. He remains the iconic pop singer whom musical historians and critics' consider the definitive pop vocalist of the last 100 years. In a crowded field, he stands alone as the male singer by whom singers of the Great American Songbook are compared. Throughout his career, Sinatra considered himself a saloon singer. This special retrospective is a chronology of select recorded songs including "This Love Of Mine," and "I'm A Fool To Want You," (two songs he co-wrote), also "Night And Day" and his personal favorite, "Put Your Dreams Away." It also includes the many songs he recorded with his favorite arranger Nelson Riddle. The set will focus on the years 1939 through 1968. It will also feature lesser known gems such as "Once I Loved," "Say It (Over And Over Again") and "The Same Hello, The Same Goodbye," (written for Frank by Alan & Marilyn Bergman, but never recorded.) There will also be respectful nods to Antonio Carlos Jobim and Duke Ellington both of whom Sinatra collaborated with in the 1960s. Several arrangements are given a decided Latin twist. Richard Malavet has been acclaimed for his work as a singer of the classic American and Spanish songbooks. He has performed with his band in many Manhattan clubs. A native New Yorker, Mr. Malavet has brought his highly acclaimed Billy Eckstine tribute, "The Billy Eckstine Project: Songs in the Key of 'B," to venues across the country. There is a $22.50 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.

NYC: GREGORY KOROSTISHEVSKY & FRIENDS

Gregory Korostishevsky is from Russia, with a talent as sprawling and unpredictable as the Mother Country. He will be performing at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) on Thursday, August 27th at 9:30 pm. He is one of the most known Russian stand-up comedians and character actors in the United States, who is instantly recognizable from numerous television commercials and stand-up comedy performances. Gregory immigrated to the US from Russia where he was trained in the dramatic arts, but no amount of training could prepare him for the language barrier he faced. So, after recovering from the culture shock and spending a great deal of time to learn English, Gregory resumed his comedy/acting career in America. His character driven stand-up act presents a hilariously clever take on life as a Russian newcomer to the United States. Gregory's character always brings about the ridiculousness of his situation and sympathy for that situation that goes beyond language. His witty and insightful humor keeps the audience laughing and looking for more. Gregory is at home in both dramatic and comedic roles. He has appeared on various TV shows including NBC's "30 Rock", "Ed" and many times in sketches on "David Letterman" and "Conan O'Brien" shows. He has done more than 60 national commercials including spots for "Time Warner Cable", "Direct TV", "Geico", "Domino's Pizza", "Vitamin Water", "Verizon", "Oreo's", "Amstel-Lite", "BMW" and a "Sprint" Super Bowl spot. His distinctive voice can be heard on the video games "Bully" and "Grand Theft Auto IV". He has also appeared in several movies, including the Academy Award- nominated film "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close", starring Tom Hanks and Sandra Bullock, "Cold Souls" starring Paul Giamatti, "Two Days in NY" with Chris Rock, "Today's Special" starring Aasif Mandvi (from the "John Stewart show). Gregory performs in the hottest clubs in NYC and Tri-State area. Based on his stand-up character, the play "Comedy and Crumbcakes" was created, produced and performed at Lincoln Center in NYC. There is a $15 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.
