CABARET TONIGHT IN NYC: WYCLIFFE GORDON & FRIENDS AT DIZZY'S
For the second year in a row, Wycliffe Gordon has won the category of "Best Trombone" in the Annual Downbeat Critics Poll. He kicks off the holiday season at DIZZY'S CLUB AT JAZZ AT LINCOLN CENTER (33 West 60th Street, NYC - 212-258-9595) Thursday through Sunday, November 28th through December 1st with a series of performances (beginning Thanksgiving night), featuring the music of Duke Ellington, Dizzy Gillespie, Tommy Dorsey, and Jimmy Dorsey, with shows at 7:30 & 9:30 pm. Dizzy's takes pleasure in welcoing back this former star of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra and the Wynton Marsalis Septet. His current group is equally impressive: Sullivan Fortner, piano; Yasushi Nakamura, bass; Alvin Atkinson, Jr., drums; Dee Daniels, vocals (11/28-11/29 only); Joseph Boga, trumpet (11/30-12/1 only); Pete and Will Reardon-Anderson, reed specialists (12/1 only). There is a $40-$45 cover.
